Shure mics (SM58 vrs PG58)

Shure mics (SM58 vrs PG58) - 05/29/03 08:22 AM

Does anyone have any experience with these mics? I want to get 2 or 3 mics. Not so much for record as playing live. They would be used for vocals primarily and not for micing instruments. I see the PG58 is half the price of the SM58 and all details appear the same. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks heaps.

All I can tell you is I've used a SM58, live, for about 2 years.
Now I upgraded it to a Beta58, and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
It's like the SM58 was making the voice darker...

The Beta58 makes the voice much more natural, brighter...

I really don't like the Sm58 now... Buy a beta58 if you can, otherwise you may try another brand then Shure.

I have to agree with Luis, The Beta58 is a great mic. Very clean, and very loud, if you want that is..

I use two mics in my solo gigs. (1) Beta58 and (1)EV457. Depending on both the gig and the room.

Good Luck in your search Bob

Thanks Luis and Leon.
I couldn't find on the web anything about the EV457. The beta58 is out of my price range. 100 bucks is the most i watn to spend. I have seen from many sites on the web that the Sm58 is very popular. My church also uses the sm58. I'm hoping to form a band and play out once a month. I'm kinda hoping for that kind of limited use something less than the SM58 miight suit me well. But I do want good sound. It's just that 100 per mic is about as high as I can afford.

thanks again
