Dual Use of SD2 Module

Dual Use of SD2 Module - 04/04/23 05:55 AM

I have a setup consisting of a laptop with Composer notation program, Hammond SK1 keyboard, and Ketron SD2 as the sound source for my laptop midi's. In addition to the GM sound set used by the laptop, can I tap into other banks of the SD2 at the same time with my keyboard, to give me some lead sounds?

Yes, with the use of a midi-merger. It merges two midi-sources (like laptop + keyboard) into one midi-in.

Thank you Michael, but perhaps I wasn't clear. One midi in is from the laptop directed to the GM sound set(I guess), and the other from my keyboard goes to a different bank of solo sounds. Pardon my ignorance, but we have two different streams going into the SD2.

I think you were clear enough Bernie. You need a midi-merger (about 50-100 $$) to connect two midi sources (like a laptop and a keyboard) to one midi in (like a SD2). Then you send Bank select and program change messages from your sources (of course they must have this function) to choose whatever sound you wish. But if this doesn´t answer your question, then I have misunderstood you completely and I am sorry for that.

Thank you very much for the explanation. This was what I needed.
