SD2 ketron

SD2 ketron - 07/29/11 09:13 AM

Hi, I just bought a Ketron SD2 and may have been mistaken in thinking that it could be midi'd up to my X4 and away we go !!
I understood that it was recommended for enhancing the sounds of Midi files so I went ahead and bought one. However i now realize that it may not be possible to simply connect a midi lead between itself and my X4 expander arranger without firstly connecting it to a computer and using some program to edit the sounds which sounds very time consuming having to work on a few hundred midis

Does anyone use a similar set up and is there any easy way to do this. I thought my X4 would automatically recognize the sounds from the SD2 and allow me change the parameters in the X4 and then save. Silly me

Hi Rusty

I have the Sd2 which I use for midi from computer and vArranger. I don't have an X4, however.

Many Thanks for the reply Bernie

I bought an SD2 hoping to link it to either my X4 or X1 Keyboard--they are both the same apart from no keys on X4 Arranger module.

So far no one can tell me if its possible to play the Midis on the X4/X1 and have the sounds coming from the Sd2

I managed to link them via midi and can have the midis playing on the X1 or X4 using what I think were the SD2 sounds -they certainly seemed Fuller- but the problem is that I cannot then SAVE those settings on the X4 and I notice as well that MUTE button cannot be used while using this configuration.

I am guessing its something to do with the Midi settings in the X4 but I tried them all with no luck

To hear your SD2, just put the X1 volume slider to 0, and the SD2 volume at max smile

Do you hear your midifile then?

Re: SD2 ketron - 08/13/11 07:52 PM

Yes Dan, I can hear the midifile by doing what you suggest

But, I cannot SAVE any changes I make to the midifile in the normal way on the X4

When I midi the SD2 and X4 the X4 chooses different settings to what I have saved already on the midifile---It chooses mostly PIANO on all tracks
When I change them to the way i Like to hear them it will not Save or allow me to MUTE any instruments

Any help greatly appreciated Dan

Re: SD2 ketron - 08/14/11 03:06 AM

Try to not mute, but put volumes at 0?

Re: SD2 ketron - 08/18/11 12:15 PM

I can put the volumes at Zero Dan and change the voices as well
But then cant Save
It will not allow me to save the new settings in the midi

I may have the TX and RX numbers set wrongly in the X4 but have no idea what they should be at

I have it as follows at the moment

I use USER 1 both in TX and RX

I have Global at 1. and Registrations at 16 in tx and rx

Rusty,

What ever happened to the Audya that blow the power supply. I can't remember didn't you get it from Thomann.

Rusty,

When you save changes, your X1 is playing good, but not the SD2?
Can you send me the saved midifile, to see how the X1 write the mutes and sounds on the file?

Rusty 999,

Not George, but I figured I'd take a go at this as I didn't see it mentioned anywhere yet.

* When you are in the MIDI menu (where you are changing your voices, volumes ... etc. once done, stop the MIDIFILE, press the SAVE button and save after oking the next message. You can choose to rename song (so you keep both pre and pro versions before the settings where changed).

Hope this helpped.

Thanks,

AJ

Hi Tony
They sent me a brand new one and I sold it without taking it out of the box. I'd had enough of it at that stage LOL

Rusty,

At least Thomann stood the warranty like they said and they sent it back to the factory, just imagine if this happen with new cars, all cars had to go back to the factory if there was a single fault, hell. Good luck with whatever you have now Rusty.

Re: SD2 ketron - 11/16/11 01:13 PM

I believe when the X-4 or other controller calls for a sound that is in a bank higher than the 128 gm sounds in the SD2, it cannot access them (unless you program the alternate control change commands for the higher banks) and thus reverts to the bottom of the list- the piano sounds. I have this problem with the SD2 and my Orla KX-10 keyboard. The Orla's programming is not sophisticated enough to select control change commands other than "0" which again will access only the first 128 sounds in the SD2. So sound # 129 from the orla will call up sound #1 from the Ketron. I can however do so with the Excelsior Midivox controller I had on one accordion and with my Totter midi as well.

Re: SD2 ketron - 11/21/11 01:37 AM

have you tried switching your X1's MIDI templates? (on F6 I think)

Try to talk about your SD2 sales on the vArranger website.
