Few Audya questions - 08/14/10 01:58 AM

Hello to every Audya owner!

I bought an Audya a month ago and I completely love it! But I have e few questions.
Do you guys have noticed that hihat changes "PAN" from right to left sometimes? This is very annoying to me because i do many recordings on DAW. I havent yet got the usb pen drive, hopefully this one fixes this problem. I currently have the OS 4.1A.

And one thing I cant understand is when I push the 2nd voice button, the second voice doesn't sound anything. The light is lit but no sound comes. I'm a former Tyros 2 and 3 owner so there are many new things to learn with a new brand. So do i have to do anything else to activate the second voice or is there some setting wrong or the keyboard are wrong?

KK,

i don't have answers to your questios, but i have a question for you

being a former Tyros 2/3 owner can you give your honest opinion on differences between AUDYA & Yammy?

what you like? difference?
overall impressions... which you prefer
etc...

thanks a bunch

I have never heard of the second voice not working, suggest you turn all the other sliders down to the bottom, then turn the second voice slider up to full and try all the second voices, well not all but a few out of each set of voices, if you still do not get any sound, take the KB back.

Yes, I have done that. In the mainscreen-view i can see that the volume is correct when i move the sliders. But the second voice doesn't get activated some how.
Bought my Audya second hand so getting it back to store is not possible.

One thing that is very annoying that Ketron has made that you can only use GM-sounds as 2nd voice, very stupid mistake. Why oh why?

To Leezone:
I would prefer to own them both. I like more the yammies brass, sax and klarinets. The Super Articulation 2 is more superior to Audyas "blow-sounds" (supersolos). Very annoying to use the Supersolos, would prefer to have them in the stock voice section. Not that u have to load the to the RAM. But i got tired of Yammies polished rhytm-section sound. Audyas rhytm-section is so "in-your-face-live". I can take more payed now for backing tracks i make, people think that it's a live band ;-).
If Yamaha starts to go the same way that Ketron does and include live-rhytm-section, I would change back to Yamaha. I have been reading a month here in the forum about everybodys different problems with the Audya, and I'm starting to realize that Ketron hasn's got the capacity to bring this new technology to a succesfull conclusion.
But I still hope! The Tyros3 is sold and it's not coming back.

Dusan:
I have also come to same point that how come some Audyas behave so differently? I haven't tried the vocalizer yet because I don't use it, mine Audya is only in my studio. Better check it if also there can be a little problems.
Can you guys have attention to the panning hihat? Best to notice it will be with headphones. Here is a test example so you can hear it how it behaves:
http://www.box.net/shared/p3vm4k6e7z

01.17 to 01.27 it's panned to the left. Then again in 01.48 to 01.58. I started just to realize that it's a 10second interval on both times!

KK,
I am glad(on some strange way)cos ather users of Audyas recognize a diference betven the same instruments.Vocaliser is not my general problem but I discover day to day a new-call them Bugs.
Some increnible things:
-if you check program Piano voices you can fined a Sreings&Piano voice. If you want to hear that voice you recognize only Piano.
Strings dont work. But whay? You must look at it cerfoly and you can fined reason for that.
Chouce that voice and pres Edit. After edit windov aper chouce a Control button.Naw you can see vertical colum for Strings voice.Your atention must be on Range colum and here you can se bouth renge is set to C2.
Ofcos that Strings sound cant work.Set new renge and they work perfect.
What I really want to say:that cinde mistakes or bether Bugs is not excepteble for that cinde of factory like Ketron is.That is simple- superficiality(cant remember bether word).

Dusan,

don't think that this is a bug. This is a program if you work in piano mode. There are a couple of such programs.

Joe,I dont thing that is a bug.I just call that cinde of mistakes so.That sound cant work even in piano mode cos bouth parameters in Range is set to C2.Parameter for ich sound must be separated. For exsample from C2 to C5 in ather way dont work.

Hello KK!

Fick du någon ordning på Audyan?

Re: Few Audya questions - 08/17/10 04:21 PM

Dusan,

A lot of what you mention below are 'user error' and not bugs. Here are some answers for you ...

-in piano mode if you playing harder you can activated drums in aranger section
>>>AJ: This is because in STYLE MODE your AFTER FILL (F7) is on. AFTER FILL means you activate the fill in by pressing harder on the keys, regardless of Piano mode on or off. Turn this feature off and save in Custum set up if you do not want to repeat this each time your machine is turned on.

- Voicetron wont work ewerytime when you nead
>>>AJ: Depends on setting (if using REGISTRATIONS - it needs to be on before you save the REGISTER). As of OS 3.0, new edit access to voicetron was implimented - Press and hold down VOCALIZER for 2 seconds to access vocalizer settings. Select (using F1-F10) vocal settin you want. Press EDIT to assign vocalizer response to left or right hand or full piano - then SAVE vocal setting.

-voice in Low.2 is set to 20 in moust cases but is louder then Bass who is set to 40
>>>AJ:- Depends on the voice you are using. Not all voices have the same attack level and this could be true. Bass is usually warmer than say Piano!

-Kayboard cant memorise Solo voice muting in midi file
>>>AJ: This is not a bugg. Mutting Solo voices is considered a LIVE action, one that is carried out as you play the midifile. If you want to do away with the voice completely, bring down it's cooresponding volume to "0" and save as a new Midifile or overwrite the old one if you want this change to be permanent.

-Kayboard cant comunicate with Computer. You cant see or transfer files from PC
>>>AJ: Go to MENU - MIDI - UTILITY and make sure USB MIDI (F6) is OFF. The USB port on the back of the keyboard can be used EITHER for data transfer (off) or midi communication (on) [in place of the MIDI in/out jacks], but NOT for both at the same time!

-To much Effect(Reverb) on some Live drums
>>>AJ: You can remove/reduce the effects on DRUMS by going into STYLE VIEW - LIVE DRUMS (F1) and pressing EFFECTS (U2) and adjust or eliminate all together as the original audio drums are recorded without effects.

-if you call Midi file from mine scren on right site you can see list of your midis. After end of first Midi playing that list is desapire and you can see only blank right site of scren
>>>AJ: Make sure LYRICS (F10) has not been pressed. If you press this, the right side goes black in preparation to disply the lyrics (if available) of the midifile.

-cant coppy style parts
>>>AJ: Download lates OS 4.1b or that found in the USB stick with the new Sounds as this future is available in these!

>>>AJ: Program Voices shown with 2-3 voices (e.g Piano & Strings). Maybe we should have found a better way to label this voice as it gives the impression that both voices are heard through out the entire range, but this is not true. This is set for PIANIST MODE which allows you to play a lead Piano voice on the right and both on the left. If you go into PROGRAM and check out the other voices there, many (especially those with bass) have this feature, together with the Morphing, Steel bend ... etc where voices are heard at different ranges of the keyboard or when the keyboard is played with a certain velocity or ... etc!

RE-INSTALLING SOFTWARE:
You must go into your AUDYA's Hard Drive and delete the Audya401.mem (or any *.mem) file found in the root directory. Then copy the *.mem file from your USB key into the AUDYA's hard drive (root directory) to replace that which you just removed. Power off your AUDYA and press and hold down F10 and UNPLUGGED as you turn it on, and do not release these buttons until you see the AUDYA white screen with update status! During update, make sure you do not power off the keyboard. AUDYA will reset automatically once update is completed!

Hope this helps you and others who might have been experierencing similar issues!

Thanks,

AJ

Re: Few Audya questions - 08/17/10 04:25 PM

KK-Studio,

The 2nd Voice is controlled directly by the 2nd voice slidder volume on the left. By moving the slidder up and down, it's corresponding value is displayed on the default screen by F7. If you see a value (e.g 50) but still don't hear any sound, it could also be that you are using a voice (e.g soft strings) which has a gradual attack and as such, you will need to keep the key(s) pressed for a while to hear this sound (same is true if this sound is selected as the main/lead sound). Try changing it to e.g brass (a sound with a shart attack to test). Also, if using a PROGRAM Voice, the 2nd voice volume within the program might be turned down - change by pressing PROGRAM - EDIT and U2/7 to change the volume as the volume data here is obtained BEFORE that of the slidder.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

AJ

AJ and Tony,
I have tried everything you've said but there must be some else problem.
I'm hoping to get the pen today, hope that helps.

AJ, could you take a listen to my test-piece about the panning hihat? What can cause this panning hihat? Is there maybe a hardware issues?
I've sometimes also have a bug when i start a style, the style is'nt in "sync". They start in different bars if you now what I mean.
The Ketron company said that I've to load a Alltabs-file in the system but that did'nt fix the issue.

KK,

Does the led on the 2nd voice button stay on when you press it down once. Just a thought. I think like you say you may well have another problem

Dusan, this is what Ketron said to do:

"Try to reload alltabs.tab file located on TABLE ( Hard disk )

On Hard disk of Audya select System/ Factory/Table ..then you’ll see Alltabs.tab…select that and press Enter .After a couple of minutes will be completed .Turn off and On"

But that did'nt help, I still get sync errors.

And yes, the led on the 2nd voice stays on when I press it once.

Thank you, but that was just an unfinished recording. Had to stop that because I heard the panning hihat.

Here is my first finished backing track on Audya: http://www.box.net/shared/7vzo97kvdr

I feel sorry for you guys who bought their Audya for full price, and still got issues. I got lucky and got mine second hand for under half newprice. All I want, is to get mine fixed before the warranty runs out (3months left).

And fozzie, what's your email? Would be nice to know someone in Sweden with the Audya.

I'm while writing, loading the Sound Upgrade! Will be back for my opinion later....

Actually... no... there is no way to change the amount of reverb in the audio drum loop. However, many audio drums are provided in 2 or 3 versions. For exemple: POPFUNK2_106 is also available as POPFUNK2FX106 (with reverb as opposed to without (or with less) and POPFUNK2RX106 which is a harder version of the audio drum.

Everything is Audya (except the guitarsolo which you of course heard)

Thanks very much for sharing your song - sounds excellent.
For the benefit of those of us who use our Audyas with a sequencer (mine is Sonar 8.5) would you share with us EXACTLY how you have your Audya connected to your sequencer and how you do your tracking and overdubs??? I have a problem with lack of audio level coming out of my Audya - with my Audya output volume full up, my Sonar stereo channel volumes almost full up and the trim on those channels turned fully up..... I'm still not getting the Audya meter level close enough to 0 db. The same thing occurs if I record an audio file within the Audya - when I play it back the level is way down, especially compared to Ketron's own audio files. Any ideas??? Carl

Re: Few Audya questions - 08/19/10 05:06 AM

Thanks Dusan - I'm not using USB connection between my Audya and my PC. I connect the main stereo outputs from my Audya STRAIGHT into 2 inputs on my MOTU 828 sound card and route those to 2 audio inputs in Sonar. I'm really frustrated by the weak audio levels from my Audya into Sonar.
REALLY wish the Audya had completely seperate outputs for all the parts like 'stereo drums', bass, chord, lower & right - then we could run direct cables into seperate inputs on a sound card and route them to seperate inputs in a sequencer. That way you could record, overdub and remix the lot to your own liking (including VSTi's). Carl

Hello Carl!

I was also wishing that it would be perfect if Audya had seperate outputs for every arranger parts. But one thing of course u can do is to "solo" every arranger part and record them separately.

I connect the main stereo outputs from my Audya into 2 inputs on my Focusrite Saffire PRO40 sound card and route those to 2 audio inputs in Cubase. I'm also surprised over the low volume from these outputs and are also quite noisefull. I must have the volume on my Focusrite on 9 out of 10 to get signal into Cubase.

Thanks a lot KK - you are running everything in a similar fashion to me, yours does sound very good indeed.
So KETRON ITALY - YOU LISTENING, AUDYA in the future must have IMPROVED AUDIO OUTPUT LEVELS, SEPERATE OUTPUTS and A BUILT-IN SEQUENCER??? Carl

Re: Few Audya questions - 08/19/10 07:32 AM

I think as well a you that the output of the Audya is to low when I listen with headphones. Most of the time I need to have the Master Volume all the way up.

If you go MENU--->KEYBOARD CONTROL---->PITCH VOLUME-TRAN----> and select SOUND CARD LEVEL and increase to say 60 the output get increase. The same can be done to RIGHT BOOTS LEVEL (increase the volume on the right sound).

The only problem is that I don't know how to save this configuration as default. When the Audya is turn off, it is back to the original volumes levels.

In the OS 4.1B you can save like Costum startup.
Low level is allso problem if you record MP3 file directly on Audya. That is not the point if you record Waw file. You can increase volume.

Machetero - many thanks for your input. I will check out increasing the Sound Card volume level through the menu as you suggested - your help much appreciated.

Also thanks Dusan for your last. Carl

When you have set the volume on the soundcard, go back (exit) to the main display. Press save button and then (F6) CUSTOM STARTUP.

KK, in my profile you can see the mail adress.

KK-Studio

Email me at axa130@hotmail.com and ask for the latest Alltabs file let me send to you. You are probably using the older version that was ment for OS 2.0 or earlier with a newer software hence the out of sync.

It could also be your sounboard, but let's try via software first!

Thanks,

AJ
