sd1 v. sd1plus

sd1 v. sd1plus - 02/22/10 08:32 AM

a guy not far from me is selling a Ketron
SD1 updated to 4.0 with the 6-pedal foot control, in excellent condition, for $1200.
does this sound like a good deal, and am i
losing much by not having an sd1plus? what advantages does the plus have? I have 2 Roland E60's now, wanted to try the Ketron as an alternative 76-er, even tho it's 7 lbs heavier than the E60. Just wondered if i'd like the piano/gtr/jazz organ/Rhodes/bass/vibes sounds better on Ketron and if the bass/drum jazz/latin styles have better presence and variety and chord recognition. I don't use any other sounds or styles. thanks for your help.

mm, you'll love the SD1, especially for the way you're going to use it.
Seems like a reasonable price. I think all the SD1Plus features can be added.

Don, thanks, but just what are the Plus features? even if i don't really need them that much it concerns me that if i want to resell this unit the market will be limited because it's not a Plus model.

I think the Plus has, or has the ability to load, the newer sound set from SD5. Also some of the styles are re-worked to incorporate the newer sounds.
AJ can tell you exactly what the differences are. I had SD1 and SD5. I prefer the SD5, but it has only 61 notes, so you would probably not be interested in that.

i wonder if the plus has better piano, rhodes, b3, gtr, bass/drum sounds or if those are the same and it's other sounds that have been upgraded? yep i do prefer 76, if i was looking for a 61 i would drive up to West Palm Beach and check out Bruno's kn5000 for $550. i'm not crazy about the added weight and lack of speakers, but if the sd1 gives me better jazz, bossa and latin sounds and styles than the E60 i just might give it a shot, and sell one of my E60's if i need to.
i like the foot controller idea, i enjoyed that on my old korg is35, and it's n.a. on the E60. also has vocalizer, mic input, good
tap tempo, good fade/out/all those are lacking on the E60. but E60 sounds good and
keybed is very nice, it's light, slim, easy to use, easy to program/edit.
there's a lot to like about it. both the sd1
and e60 are phased out models, so that's even, but the sd1 is a lot older design. i did hear a guy play one a couple years ago, he used a killer B-3 sound that blew me away.

Here's a plus for sale in Colorado. Good price. http://denver.craigslist.org/msg/1603888519.html
You can email AJ and ask him about the sounds.
I recall liking the piano a lot on the SD1, but it's great on the SD5. I haven't played them side by side.

Hey!
I had SD1 Plus..and a friend of mine still got a SD1 ...He loaded latest OS for Plus..I think it's 3.0 or something..and it's working perfect. The diference are few butons more and a drum remix option. That makes drums from paterns to be runned with the midifile.
By the way , I still have a nice pack for SD1, with new pianos and guitars..many other stuffs to makeit sound up to date.
Let me know

The SD1 and SD1 plus are the same only if the 4.XXX software is installed. They color coded some buttons also because some button placement was confusing.

I wasn't sure of what version software they were up to since I last owned a SD1. it could very well be 4.0.

I checked the Ketron.it site and the last version was 4.0c.

so with the 4.0 it's virtually equal except
the buttons are not color-coded. I can live with that, or color-code some myself.
now waiting for the guy to come down to $1000, or if he doesn't by Sunday, maybe i'll go there and try it and if i love it i'll give him the $1250.

Hey!
I remember I had v4.0c on my SD1 Plus, and the same OS is working on SD1 classic. The nice point is that you may use the sampler for different tasks.I even use it for backup voices...!Or live guitar riffs..it sounds great!
I loved SD1+ the only reason I don't have it anymore is the weight, almost 35 kilos with flight case..so I turn to Midjay.

If you take an SD1 and load OS4.0c (with the new sounds option which will require about 14 disks to complete), then you'll pretty much have the SD1Plus. Also, you'll have to download the new bonus styles associated with the [plus]. The older styles have also been revoiced to take advantage of the new sounds too.

I say pretty much because the Plus has extra memory dedicated to the new Stereo Grand Piano sound which can still be played in a regular SD1 but missing a little resonance detail - but that is it.

Thanks,

AJ

I had both SD1 and SD1 plus. the older SD1 has a problem with the connection between the display and the board which results in crushes. it is fixable but can cause a big headache. other than that it is a wonderful keyboard and imho much better than the E60.
