MS40 Questions - 02/16/05 08:05 PM

Hello AJ,
Please help with two questions on the MS40:
1. How do you create a "user drum set" and then save it in a registration, a pattern or a midi?
2. How can you move a percussion voice, for example, the wood block or guiro, into the rhythm beats of a registration, a pattern, and a midi file?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Anthony - I swapped out my MS40 a couple of years back for an XD module so I have forgotten most things but you can gen get tremendous help from the SOLTON MS40 group on Yahoo.

There are still plenty of people on there who use the module even though it's over 10 years old now and they can help with anything you ask - You will have to join the group first but then you can ask away or download style files etc.

Best of luck - KF

Thanks for your prompt reply and information. I am a member of the group you recommended but my questions remain unanswered. I was hoping AJ the Ketron Master would set me in the right direction. So AJ, or anyone else with ANY info which could help, please respond. Thanks.

It's been a while since I laid hands on an MS unit but from memory....

(1) Create the user drum set (EDIT - DRUM) as you would and save with new name.
Now to use in a style, you will have to recall this same DRUM set and not the STANDARD, TECHNO ... so you will have to scroll through the drum sets until you get to user (which will now have the new name of the new set you created). When done with the PATTERN EDIT, then save the new Pattern. You must save it in the PATTERN first before going out and saving the overall settings within the REGISTRATION. Do not confuse the REGISTRATION with the PATTERN.
PATTERN - Saves the drum sets used, sequence programed voices used for chords1,2 and 3 ... and any relative fields to the PATTERN/STYLE being created.
REGISTRATION - Saves the Pattern used, the Voices, 2nd Voice Registrations ... Transpose value.. etc.

(2) As for your 2nd question, you cannot move voices into Registrations. You can however use the voices within the Pattern and then save the pattern under a registration. All VOICES including those under the EFFECT group can be used in Pattern EDIT when associated with BASS and CHORDS1-3. Only actuall DRUMSETS can be used with the DRUM track. So go ahead and in Pattern EDIT, go to record e.g. CHORD1 - change it's voice to Woodblock. This is true for Midi files to - select the track and change it's voice to Woodblock. You can't do this for registrations for reasons mentioned above.

Hope I helpped.

Thanks,

AJ
