XP 80 How to use sequencer to create a song - 07/23/00 03:20 PM

Firstly ,I am a guitar player!!I have bought a used xp80 for live use.Initially it will be used for drums and some backing.I have been programming an SR16 for years and basically will copy the exact drum track(cover songs).I build up the main patterns in the song and add them together with fills. As everyone will probably know, this is easy to do.I can't get the XP80's sequencer to do this and the manual is not very user friendly.ps I got no Demo Disks with it.
My music is rock/pop and I am not too confident with electronic instruments.I have come across a Korg o1W that seemed to build songs the way I am used to.
Can I please have some help.Make it as simple as possible as I am new with this Roland.
Also can I download the Demo's from somewhere??

Mark,

The XP-80 has a record mode called "Pattern".
I think this is what you are talking about.
To get to "Pattern" mode:

*Select patch you want to record. If drums, press "RHYTHM" mode button.
1. Press "Seqencer"
2. Press "Pattern" button, which is right above the "Track 2" button in the middle of the keyboard.
3. Record your "pattern"
*note* I find it handy to use the "Loop" (F5) when recording drums.
NEXT STEP: ASSIGNING PATTERN TO TRACK
*This procedure is outlined on page 114 of your manual.
I would just be repeating what the manual says, so I'll stop here. If you still have questions, let me know.

Good luck.
