Can EDO parity RAM be used in XV5080?

Can EDO parity RAM be used in XV5080? - 07/02/00 08:41 PM

I'll received my ordered XV5080 very soon.
Have anyone tried EDO RAM with parity in
XV5080? (e.g. 16 x 36 64MB EDO RAM)

Also, which should I choose - the RAM with
gold or silver connectors?

Hi Howard,

According to the Roland XV series brochure, the SIMM memory should be 72 pin, FPM or EDO, 60 ns or faster, and 16, 32, or 64MB.

Don't know about the connectors.

Is there any difference to the user, whether the SIMM is FP or EDO?

I've read Roland's specification on RAM
for XV5080.

However, it has not mention whether 8 bits
or 9 bits (with parity) should be used.

I guess 8 bits RAM can be used. But I just
wonder, and I want to know, whether 9 bits
RAM can be used or not

Hi Howard,

Most samplers, I believe, do not work well or at all with parity RAM. I would suspect that it would be non-parity RAM that is required.

I've received my XV5080.

Inside the user manual, it has mentioned
XV5080 can support both party (9 bits) or
non-parity (8 bits) 72 pins SIMM RAM.

Hi Howard,

Maybe after you get a chance to play with it, you can post a user review here on initial impressions on how it sounds, the COSM effects, ease of sampler playback, etc.

(I've got 2 SRX cards waiting to be installed in one of these units )

Thanks,
Chris
