JV-1010 drums and cakewalk - HELP!!! - 11/03/99 12:40 PM

When using the Roland JV-1010 with Cakewalk I can not seem to be able to assign drums to any other channel than 10. With other sound modules in my studio I can (and do) assign drums to individual channels for greater control. What am I not doing right or is this a design of the JV. I did notice that the Bank number for patches are the same as the rhythm sets, in other words the User patches are bank# 10240 and the User rhythm bank is the same #10240. What happens is I select a channel other than 10 assign a drum kit to it and I get a piano voice etc… If anyone knows a work around please let me know.

It's the JV-1010 design I'm afraid.

The drums parts on JV/XP series follows the GM standard, always on channel 10.
I remember the Sound Canvas (GM/GS) have a SYSX message to use any other channel as a drum part, but I don´t know about JV/XP having a similar feature.

Hi
Actually this is NOT true - the Drums/Rhythm are limited to Performance PART 10 but you can change the Part MIDI Channel to anything you want between 1 and 16.
In Performance Mode, change the Part Midi Channel value.
You are limited to only 1 Drum/Rhythm Part unless you have an Expansion Board that supports Percussion Menu Patches, which can be assigned to any Part.
