Confused... - 03/14/02 07:38 AM
I just bought a Vocal exp.brd. for my XP. I checked out all the sounds and they seem to be working fine, but then I get near the end of the patches and there are about three or four that won't sound when I hit the keys...then I'll get a sound finally and then nothing again. Is it broke or is it set up wierd? I thought maybe the velocity was set real high but I don't think that's it because I was practically pounding on the keys trying to get the patches to work. What do you think?

Really, someone with the vocal board is probably going to have to help you out. I don't have the board and can't find a patch list, but you might try looking at the TVA envelopes. The attack slope may be very slow, i.e., the patch may be programmed to ramp up slowly.
Just a thought.

I've had this problem with some of the internal patches on a JV1080. You need to look under TVA at the velocity sensitivity settings....lower the settings until you're happy and then save the results as a user patch.

Thanks, I'll see if that works.

Hey still!
I found this--maybe it might have some useful information; I browsed it real quick, seems like some have had the same problem

Thanks Bluesboy, They did have some pretty interesting things to say. Sounds like a lot of people who got the Vocal board are dissapointed. I haven't really messed with it enough to say either way...having two kids and all. What boards do you have?

I can't say for sure that I know what the problem is, but I've got an idea. I think you should play the entire range of the keyboard. There may be only 4 or 5 keys that do anything. I was concerned about this with my bass/drums board. Some of the patches on it are devoted exclusively to snare. So, they used only about 4 keys in the entire patch. My guess is that you got lucky enough to hit those keys a couple times, but the rest of the keys would do nothing regardless how much pounding you did.
The way to fix this, should you do so and if this is the problem, is to adjust the key range for each tone. If that doesn't work, then the patch is using a multi-sample sound that doesn't cover the entire range. For instance, my drums and bass board has a patch that handles both a closed and open hihat in a single tone.
