I just got one, and I'm going to begin using it tonight. I've read the manual and experimented a bit.
I have a DR-5 "Dr. Rhythm Section" and it has a great feature that the 770 doesn't have: the feature that allows the user to copy from one user pattern to another. With the DR-770 I have to start from scratch with each new pattern, even if I only want a slight variation.

In the DR660, you can copy one pattern to another.
In pattern mode select the source pattern, press copy, and the display show the source number and destination number, like this:
106 > 106
Turn the value knob until the desired destination is displayed, like:
106 > 200
Press Enter, the display shows "Sure?", press Enter again to copy the pattern.
These steps should work the same way in the 770.

Hey, thanks for that info. I'll try it.
I've been making basic patterns in real time by slowing the tempo way down and setting the quantize to eighth notes. Then I go back in Step Recording, reset the quantize to either sixteenths or smaller and put in the rest of the pattern.
I find I have to turn up the volume on the ride and hi-hat. It would be great to have a few more cymbal sounds.
