Alvin,

You can download S770 OS from Roland US: www.rolandus.com.
Also, try the Roland Sampler User Group (SGROUP) at www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup.
You´ll need the Smac (MAC) or SDisk (PC) utility to create S770 disks on your computer.

Dear Mgomes:

Thank you kindly for your help!

I downloaded the S-770 system & SDISK program from Roland. First I copy the S-770 system to a floppy. Then I used the SDISK program to read it. Then I used it again to write it onto a new floppy disk. I used that disk to boot up my S-770, but it still said "not S-770 system disk".

Do you think I did the procedure wrong or may be my sampler is really too far gone.

I thank you in advance if you could give me more insight on my probelm!

Alvin.

Alvin..

Sdisk is a DOS program; it works from DOS prompt under Windows 9x, but does not write disks correctly. If you´re working with Win 9x, first quit to DOS mode before use Sdisk.

Now the procedure:
1) Unzip the OS file to the same folder of Sdisk program; this can be done under Win9x, the next procedures executed in DOS mode.
2) Start Sdisk.
3) Press "D" for details
4) in "New filename" type the name of the unzipped OS file.
5) in "New drive" type the letter of your drive or press Enter to accept A:
6) Now press "W" to start writing the OS file into drive A:
That´s it!
About "Read": is the inverse procedure, read Roland disk from drive and save as a file on your computer; useful for making backup of your floppys or send disks over the Net.

Good luck.

Re: Roland S-770 System Disk - 08/20/00 11:00 PM

If either of you would happen to know where I could find a 1.03 or 1.00 utility disk image for the s-330 I'd appreciate it. I tried using mine today and somehow it appears to of become corrupted. Looks like it's been warped a bit, regardless I can't find the backup. (never thought I'd need it really and who knows where it is now)

I found a binhex but I'm on pc so that couldn't really help much. Thanks ahead of time.

To Alvin,

You can use Sdisk again....

1)Put the S330 disk in your drive
2)Start Sdisk
3)Press "D"
4)In "New filename" type anything you want (like "S330Util.out" or "garbage.xyz"; this really doesn´t matter...). You can also keep the default name (sdisk.out).
5)In "New drive" type the drive letter.
6)Press "R" to read the disk.

A image file will be created in your Sdisk folder, and now you can email this file to AFM.

Re: Roland S-770 System Disk - 08/27/00 03:04 AM

Dear Mgomes:

Thanks for the instructions. Failed to use SDISK to copy the S330 Utility Disk. After I tried to read the disk, it showed a diskette error: address marked not found.

I also tried to read another disk (S-50 System disk), just to make sure it wasn't the S330 disk which has a problem. Got the same message again.

Any advice?

Alvin.

Alvin,

I don´t know what is wrong; I´ve never received this message...
Are you sure the disks are OK, not damaged? The disks will boot up your samplers?

Re: Roland S-770 System Disk - 01/24/01 08:59 AM

Dear mr. Mgomes.
I have a S-770, and i erase the OS when accidentally format the hard disk. I have read your reply post by Alvin concerning teh OS for the S-770. I can't write the image file in a diskette (message too small/too large appear). I have follow all your recommendation;I use DOS, the wright diskette and i don't work. The file (S770225.out) seems too large for the diskette, it's more than 1.44 meg!!!!

Can you help me
thank's for your answer

Re: Roland S-770 System Disk - 01/24/01 11:29 AM

I think you have a damaged or incorrect file...
Check the sizes:
S770225.zip (zipped file)172.213 bytes
S770225.out (unzipped)737.280 bytes
This file fits on a double density, 720 Kb floppy disk.
Try downloading again, or if you still have problems, I can email the OS to you.

Re: Roland S-770 System Disk - 01/24/01 12:22 PM

Thank's for your answer,
I have check the size of zip and unzip file, it's correct. I have follow your recommendation(Alvin text, before) and i don't know why it's not working. What are the size of the final system file that enable the system disk to boot my S-770? When i try to write with fdisk it's seem that the file is about 1,47 mg (s770225.out). If you have other suggestion, i appreciate them very much because my S-770 is not working at all without this system disk!

Thank's again

I read your recent message. Actually, I had the same problem with the disk & never got my S-770 to work. I would be grateful if you would email me the disk too?

Thank you so much.
