Buying a MC-505 TODAY , is it worth it? A better Suggestion Synth Wizzards??? - 02/12/02 06:17 AM

I’m sick of my Korg Trinity drum machine .
I thought it was good and in fact it is , but it’s pissing me off same old sounds all the time.
i’m thinking to buy a MC -505 for like a thousand bucks , do u think it’s ok, or should i consider any other options ?

I’m working on a DIGI 001 , Mac bassed “home bedroom” studio........

Thanx for ur suggestions if u got one :-)

A friend of mine has one and to be honest...It sounds really good

But then again I think ReBirth and Fruity Loops sound good too (and both are free on the net)

If you want to do purely studio work, i'd consider the "FREE" option

Yeah , well , i'm kinda tired of ReBirth too .
I've heard the MC-505 myself and yeah , it sounds cool , i thought may be for the same money i could buy some new similar drum machine........
Besides , i need it for giging as well....

Thanx for replying Soft Machine !

Anything that is pre-programed will get old fast, because it's not YOUR ideas. Get into making your own "stamp" on your music and the machine will not be as important. YOu can get a sound module for WELL under a thousand dollars that will add new, fresh sounds to your drum library - then you can cut, paste and tweak till dawn !

Uncle Dave , can't agree with you more !
However i'm not looking for the MC-505 loops but the sounds .
So far i've never used those "already made" loops on my music because of what you said .
If Roland has sold , lets say , 2 million MC-505 would be pretty naive to pretend being original using a factory patern....
I was just thinking of the F**ing power those sounds have .
All of the lame Trinity drum samples can go ask for a pension, don't you think?

Thanx Uncle , good point !

William

There must be a cheaper way to get those sounds, without paying for all the technolgy to make the loops and such - maybe a sampler is in your future???????

A Sampler , yeah , may be, although i'll have to learn how to use those evil machines (kidding)
The good thing about the hardware drum machines is that you can actually feel the rhythm and play it on your own , the sounds are under your fingers so you can get in a pretty inspired mood and suddenly get a great timing for , let's say , some jungle snares, or some h.hats ....
That's something you can't feel when programing .
Not to mention the posibility of taking the machine to a gig and play with all those knobs and the D-Beam while jumpin'.......fun guaranteed !
