choosing the right equipment

As an electronic music beginner hoping to create original dub, breakbeat, reggae, jazz, r&b, melting pot songs, with the ability to produce all the tracks, from the drum and bass lines, to the melody/ instrumentals, it seems there are countless ways to approach equipment selection.

recommendations so far have been
1. Korg Trinity with akai s2000 sampler
2. Korg Karma with akai s2000 sampler
3. Korg Triton Pro
4. everything else

any suggestions?

Allow me to further muddy the waters by making an entirely different suggestion. Consider a Yamaha Motif synthesizer paired with an E-mu ESI-2000 sampler. The Motif provides a broader sonic palette than either the Trinity or the Karma (for about the same price). The Motif contains a sampler capable of importing WAV, AIFF, Akai and Yamaha A-series samples. The E-mu can read both Akai and E-mu samples. The two pieces of gear would offer you access to an incredible sound library.
