X3 Question, please help.

X3 Question, please help. - 02/12/00 08:37 AM

I bought my X3 at a pawn shop, so I didn't recieve a disk of the factory preset sounds. In an effort to learn the keyboard (was following a video tutorial) I deleted all sounds except for the General MIDI ones. The video didn't bother to tell me that that would be the actual effect, and that I'd need the disk to get them back. I managed to find the disk on-line, but now I'm wondering just how to go about getting them from my computer onto my keyboard. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. A music teacher of mine said I should look through my manual for a "System Exclusive Dump", or Sysex, but I couldn't find anything close. I'm at one of those inspirational bursts and I don't have any decent sounds. =[

You do need software that allows you to use SYSEX. The site that you downloaded the banks from might have it. Programs like Cakewalk also have sysex. The X3 needs to be able to receive SYSEX and then it is just a matter of loading the sounds into the program and clicking SEND ALL or something simiar. I wouldn't worry though. You should be able to do this with no problems and your synth will be like new. Keep in mind that if it was used then you have lost some patches that have been edited.

Why must he do it the hard way? all he has to do is put the files (.pcg for the prog/combi/global data and .sng files for song examples) on a standard ms-dos formated 720k disk and pop that into the left side of the KORG x3 and load them in using disk load.he doesen need to deal with SYSEX!
