I'm moving on. My Roland S760 has too many limitations. 32MB is difficult to work with. My XP60 is powerful, but the sounds are way too thin. Hardware is out, software is in.

So I upgraded. I built a PC running Win XP, 1.8 gHz, 1.5GB RAM and two hard drives (30GB Main, 120GB Secondary). I'm auctioning off my Roland VS840 to get Pro-Tools Digi 001.

My question is, who's using software samplers around here? I'm looking to get a good one that will seamlessly import my Roland S760 stuff without me having to reprogram anything. Since you can't resell sample CDs, I'd need one that would allow me to read my Roland and audio CDs without a hitch.

I think my system is powerful enough. I'm trying to do this so I'd hang on to my XP60 and use it as a controller to drive a software sampler to compliment the sounds on the keyboard. The XV5080 seems like a nice solution, but the less hardware and rack stuff the better.

Share you experiences with the software samplers (NOT Software Synths!).

Hey!

I've been using soft samplers for about 3 years now and they are amazing. Hardware samplers are history!

Best soft sampler would be Native Instruments "Contact" (i think that's the name).
I'm pretty sure that it supports Roland format. I also have a DIGI001 - good card!

epu,

I hope you do not get pissed off from what I am going to type right now. Digi001 is mostly brand name. Yes, it is a nice card but almost every other card give you better value for your money. What software sequencer are you planning to use it with?

By the way, I applaud the fact that you are upgrading. The synths that you have, especially XP60, is only good as a controller in my humble biased limited opinion.

you're right, but it's a brand name, with excelent software, with a giant user base and a large community. I'm not really getting it for the brand name, but because of my epxerience with it back in college, and my likeness towards it more than Cubase and some of the other programs I used earlier on.

I plan on getting either kontact, or saving up for a Roland XV5080, because the idea is to have a synth and sampler in one unit which would be my sound source for everything. The XV5080 is a great candidate becuase it really is a souped of version of my S760 and XP60 rolled into one.
