Getting a headache - 05/16/03 12:00 PM

Hi,

I like working with my audio on my computer very much but even though I have a screen filter(piece of glass you hang before your monitor with plastic wire) I get a headache very quickly from all that staring to my monitor.

Does anyone knows any tricks that can prevent this??? Iam a bit desperate.

Best regards

The headache is probably caused by several things.
1. Eyestrain due to constant staring. A screen which emits light is much more tiring than a book which reflects light.
2. Flicker due to the scanning process. It doesn't matter how fast it scans, the flicker will get you. Use an LCD screen or a laptop. You'll notice the difference.
3. Not blinking. Your eyes will dry out very rapidly. Try something like Tears Naturale to lubricate them.
4. Keeping your head fixed in one position. Makes the neck muscles stiff.
5. Bad posture due to sitting position.

Try getting up every now and then. Look into the distance often while moving your head. Do a few exercises during a session. You could always take a couple of aspirins instead.

Hello..........I agree with Pilot, never just stare at the screen.......keep your eyes moving. Try changing the contrast settings on your monitor. A big help I found is to change the background colors on your programs if you can. White backgrounds are harsh.....I prefer light blue or gray. Good luck.

Thanks so much for your input.

I really think its important to move your eyes as I often get 'sucked' up by the screen when Iam working. I then probably concentrate to much and dont move my eyes enough....

Regarding PC Monitor eye strain. All the above advice I agree with.
One basic point not mentioned....How long is it since you had your eyes tested???
I now use an LCD and I get no strain at all.
Set page background colour if white to a pastel shade.
Reduce the contrast, if set too high, whites will be over bright.
Sit as far back from the monitor as possible whilst still keeping in focus.

Also If you wear glasses, they make them with some sort of coating that will reduce, or eliminate eye strain when staring at computer monitors for long periods of time. Might be time to talk to an eye doctor.

Graham .... As I was reading the responses, I was wondering when someone was going to suggest an eye exam!?!?! ... I wear glasses (graduated tri-focals) but find that when on the PC or playing the kb, the monitor and/or music is at just the right distance so I do not need the specs ... It took a while before I realized that ....
