equipment upgrade question - 07/27/16 07:16 AM

Hello All,
I have an opportunity to upgrade one of my keyboards.
I currently have a Motif XF6 and a PA900.
My usage is at home have fun, and create background scores for shortfilms that I work on as a hobby , jamming with friends etc.
I now have around 1500-2000 to burn.
and I am thinking of selling one of the keyboards and upgrade.
If I sell either of those, I can get around 1500.
that will give me a total of 3000-3500 to spend.
upgrading which one makes more sense?
#1)should I sell motif and get Montage (keep PA900)
#2)should I sell PA900, keep the XF and buy PA4X

so bottom line is which combination is better for my usage
(A) Montage and PA900
(B)Motif XF & PA4X
thanks in advance for your suggestions

It all depends on how important FM sounds are to you. Do you use experimental electronic sounds a lot, which you edit yourself? Or are samples of natural acoustic instruments more important? In the latter case, I think the advantage of upgrading to the PA-4X and keeping the Motif, for which you can use up to 4 GB of additional flash libraries, is bigger than to buy a Montage.

thank you very much for the thoughts. Yes what you are saying makes a lot of sense.
Comparatively I use more natural sounds than FM sounds. Makes a compelling case for keeping XF and upgrade to PA4X.
thank you!

Another option

Keep what you have got, and then get a laptop (Or 2 in 1) followed by Komplete 10 and connect to your keyboards via Midi.

Hope this helps
