computer noise level - 10/13/02 08:08 PM

Hey friends. Does anyone have any thoughts to offer on this question ? Are there any computer power supplies and/or fans that are known for their low noise levels, for us that try to do the best we can with our home recording setups ? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. dogman

http://www.newegg.com

Almost all the fans they have there are named something like the "UltraSilent 4mm 239586." I've been looking for additional fans 'cuz my case seems to hold in a lot of heat, but I'm sure they have ultra quiet power supplies, too.

Of course it could just be hype and marketing, so...

I must admit... the computer I'm using is mega loud.

But, it's really not that much of a problem when you think about it. After all, the only time it'll interfere with your recording process is when your trying to record from a microphone that's in the same room as your computer.

The standard length for even a cheapo mic lead these days is about 10 metres. It's also pretty easy to get a hold of headphones with a pretty long lead too!

So, all you have to do is hit record (or have someone hit record for you), take a few seconds to take your position in the other room and off you go!

Sometimes the best solutions are the most simple ones!

Hey Cloakboy-
I meant to ask... what's the weblink all about? (newegg.com)

Is that your own business? (if it is then I'm very impressed!)

just curious

HA! If that was my own business, I'd probably be rich. No, it's just a website that I have bought computer parts from. They have really good prices and an excellant reputation amongst PC techies. Like I said, right now I'm looking at fans, and I noticed that every fan they sell is hyped as being very quiet.

They seem to have an awful lot of fans for a watercooled system. Silent or not, the noise builds up.

Silent fans are nice, but you still have too much noise coming from cdrom's/writers/harddisks etc...

I solved it almost completely by
locking the pc's in a closed cabinet.
The cabinet is against a cold wall of my house, so only problem with warming up occur during summertime.
But then it is too hot anyway in my place (topfloor of the house) to stay there long.

Yup, from the site:

"First we fitted the case with a window. With a case like this, you will want to show off the water cooling set up. Next we added our crystal LED fan to the side of the case to move air around the case. One of the ..."

..and that's just the first fan.

"We've also added a dynatron fan to the rear as an exhaust. The dynatron has been very popular ..."

Jiddu, you might not see the fans, but now you can atleast read about them

Good stuff, but probably expensive too.
I would need all the priducts twice and for the harddisks I need 4 , for each PC and probably there won't even fit 4 of those in each PC.

This was the material I used;
1 large shelve of plywood Euro 14,95
(250cm x 50cm x 50cm)
1 pianotype hinge Euro 6,95
Some wood for construction Euro 2,25
Screws (had those)
4 trolleywheels Euro 9,95
(to pull both towers out easily in case needed)

So that's euro/US$ 34,10 totally
The only tools you need is a saw and a screwdriver.
