Horns , Piano, Strings? (No modules or software)

Horns , Piano, Strings? (No modules or software) - 10/30/08 05:22 AM

I need to pick up a keyboard synth for a short studio project. The main sounds I'll need and importance in this order:

1. Horns
2. Piano
3. Strings
4. Analog Synth patches

I'd like to buy something like a Kurzweil 26xx, Motif, Triton, Roland, etc. or anyone has a better suggestion (stand alone keyboard only, no modules or software). Price is not a huge issue but don't want to break the bank...61 non-weighted keys will be fine. Polyphony, memory, midi bells/whistles, sequencer, etc, not important as I'll be going to tape for each track. I'll go to Ebay and get one of these used. I need to get someting quickly and would like recommendations for which of the above would do the best job...for horns especially. Thanks in advance.

My pick would be a Yamaha Motif ES with PLG-150 An1x plugin board. Best strings and horns and the VA synth plugin board is just superb. Can't go wrong there.

I'd also recommend a Kurzweil but to be honest my experience with their reliability and service prevents me from doing so. Could be just my bad experience.

Anyway, try before you buy. You never know. YOu might like a Fantom or a fantom or some cheesy old Triton instead.

Good enough for me. I've been leaning towards the Motif anyway. This should do it. Thanks

Also, is the new XS motif worth the extra money or will I do just as well with the ES?

You might also check out the new Korg M50. I spent just a few minutes going through some of its factory presets and was very impressed.

*""My pick would be a Yamaha Motif ES""*

I went to GC and tried the Motif's. Was blown away by the Motif XS8 88 weighted key and walked out with it. It's big, a little ugly but blew away the Fantom and Oasys IMO. Thanks for the advice.
