Help I'm syncing !!!

Help I'm syncing !!! - 06/06/02 03:44 AM
Currently I use Cubase V as sequencer with some rewired programs. I also use audio tracks in Cubase.
Often, when I start playing a song, the audio does not sync at all with the MIDI or it runs out of sync after a while. When I restart the song, everything works ok.
Does anyone know how to keep audio / rewired stuff in sync ?
Does it have something to do with options not set properly ?
Please advice...

Even with really expensive cards, it's a PITA. Just record everything into audio.
Also. This just in. Sweden beat Nigeria 2-1.

So , you're saying it's not possible to sync audio with MIDI ? Then what the hell is Steinberg being so enthousiastic about when they mention Cubase ?
And what will happen if I try to sync MIDI with MIDI (Should even be a greater mess) ?

Yes.
I don't know.
No.
In that order.

First off recording adio in one program, and then expecting it to sync with midi in a totally diferent program will never work. The clocks are never exactly the same. That is why I do a midi click track in the synquencer before recording an audio track, all in the same program (Metro 5). This should hold true for any adio/midi syncing all in one program.

And what about rewired stuff?

Syncing different MIDI apps/hardware shouldn't be a problem. You have one master and the rest follow that. Mix in audio and you'll gouge your eyeballs out of their sockets before bedtime.

And that's (one of the) problem(s). I can't get the hardware / apps synced. I use Cubase as master (MIDI sync input = INTERN output = MIDI adapter + rewire ?).
This should be working, shouldn't it?
Well it doesn't

first thing to remember is that there are two clocks here, the MIDI clock and the Digital audio clock. You need one really good quality clok source to sync the rest of your stuff too. It is possible but is very hardware dependant and can be exspensive.

Are you using MTC (midi time clock) or some other protocol? Make sure you have the same amount of frames selected on all equipment, for example '24'. I sync my Akai DPS12 to my PC with MTC. Works fine.

There are two settings here. One for clock and one for timecode (or something?)
As clock I can choose from:
- Intern (I believe this is what you use if you want cubase to be master)
- MIDI Clock
- ASIO
- ASIO2 / MMC
As timecode I can choose from:
- Intern
- MIDI Timecode
- ASIO
- ASIO2 / MMC
I will check that thing with the framerates. See if it works...

There should be a selection box for frames too.

Yeah, there is. 24 - 29,75 fps (or so).
There are also boxes for MIDI out, timecode and clock.
WHat's the difference between clock and timecode anyway?

I'm just guessing, but I'd say lack of standards. Things shouldn't have to be like this.

Thanks tekminus, I hope I can figure it out from here. I also downloaded a copy of the cubase manual, so maybe there's some interesting information in there...
