Hello again!
I was wondering if there existed some sort of software that could do the same as a QY100?

Band In a Box is the best at doing the QY style of sequencing. www.pgmusic.com
or as stated below, One Man Band http://www.1manband.nl/omb.htm

Unfortunately I have not found a Yamaha XG sound set in Software that sounds as good as the QY100.

Hi Lee,
now that's an interesting thought.
A QY100 as a soundsource for OMB.
Do you actually own one Lee?
The last one I had was the QY20 & the larger QY700, but that was years ago.

Doc, I doubt it's still available, but, Yamaha used to have an XG softsynth. Latency was terrible so couldn't be used for realtime playing in OMB. For backing arrangement, maybe it would work.

If I'm not mistaken, you've actually tried OMB before??
best wishes

Rikki,
Yes, I did own one until I got out of the Soft Arranger/Synth game. WORKS PERFECTLY with OMB and Live-Styler. The XG mapping is right on. Sounds pretty darn good too.

It solves ALL those issues with playing Yamaha styles on soft arrangers because it is XG compatable.

But, it's not a soft synth so some don't like that approach.

You can get one on e-bay for approx $350.

I went back to hardware or I would still have mine.

Isn't the sequencer on the QY100 part based? meaning that you can select different motifs/riffs/licks/patterns for different instruments at different times, and mapping it all to a chord track? At least that's what I could understand from reading the manual

I thought you could only sequence styles in one man band, and BIAB you would have to create hybrid styles to mix and match the different patterns at different times? Or am I way off into the woods now?

Hi Doc,
I thought you just wanted to put patterns together with chord changes
ie vari 1 , vari2, intro's & endings.
Didn't realize you were refferring to a mix n match of tracks.

You can actually mix n match tracks in OMB by using the import/export function of individual tracks or complete style parts.
Then use the Arranger Page to put a backing together.
Sorry I can't help with QY100, I had the QY20, but that was over 10years ago, and the above was the only way I remember using it.

best wishes
Rikki

p.s thanks Lee, I'll keep that in the back of my mind.

The new BIAB let you use something like 20 style changes per song - check it out.
