I suffered my very first broken key last night. Although it's not an arranger, I knew someone on here could probably help. It's on a Yamaha CS6x synth, which has a metal frame. I've just ordered a new key from Yamaha which should be here in a few days.

Do any of you know of any online tutorials on how to replace broken keys? Should I just pay someone else to do it for us?

I have a friend who works for Yamaha in London who says it's a pretty simple job, but it's a bit scary without knowing what we're getting into!

Thanks,

Carrie

HI Carrie,

Sorry to hear about your broken key. What a bummer.

Replacing keys can be done, but it's not for the faint of heart. Below is an article about opening up a Tyros 1 and looking inside. Although you don't have an arranger, the principles are the same. Check it out....

Even though I'm very handy, I would take it to my local repair guy to fix.

Hope it works out for you.

Regards,
Al

Thanks for the reply Al. I remember seeing those photos a while back but never paid much attention to them. It's like a Tyros autopsy!

Looks VERY complex and scary in there. I'll see what my husband wants to do with it when the new key comes.
