How do I post a wav file to share here on the Zone?

A while back I started writing a song for my daughter Katelyn, who is now 3 years old (almost 4). She loves listening to her daddy play and one day I was inspired to start a song for her.

Sadly a few months ago I accidentally wiped it from my media card (thinking I had it backed up to my computer) and all that work was lost.

My problem is I can't read music and if I don't save something after writing it, I can tend to forget how to play it. Luckily I remembered the basic melody to it. I quickly recorded about 56-57 seconds of this piece because I GREATLY need some opinions on the string section. It consists of a Piano, and 3 of my custom edits which include a Slow Cello, Slow Violin, and Slow Oboe.

I want to make sure the string section sounds ok. When I recorded this quick wav file I purposly reduced the sound of the piano so that the strings stand out more since that is my main focus right now with this song.

Any help would really be appreciated.

You just need to upload it to a website ( have you got a homepage account you can put it on ? ) and post a link to it.

Nigel,
Actually the only online page I have is an MSN (Picture Page Account). I don't have any websites where I can upload Wav. or MP3's.

Squeak,

Nearly all Internet Service Providers give each customer about 10 megs of free space to do with what they wish, upload files, create a website, etc. Check your ISP and ask them how to upload to the allocated space, then provide a link to that file and you're ready to go.

In order to upload the file you will need a File Transfer Protocol program. There are lots of free ones available just be doing a Google Search.

Good Luck,

Gary

A tip for future recordings.
While you are recording you might have your keyboard connected via midi to your PC and record the midi in realtime in a sequencer like sonar.
This way you allways have the midi file on your PC.

I did a google and I found quite a few sites, but many so called "FREE" sites have all those annoying pop up ads and banners. I don't want to direct members here to a site only to get bombarded with pop up ads and cheesy banners.

Any suggestions on sites?

Wav files are large files and can take some time to upload and download even with a broadband connection, so convert it to either mp3 (Minimum 192 bit rate) or WMA (Minimum 160 bit rate) first, and then post it.
