The piano sound used in the beginning is from the SRX 11 expansion board, not a stock piano of the G70. I'm sure of that because he explains that the sound uses 704 samples ("sept-cents quatre Ă©chantillons") - that's the figure from the SRX 11 advertisement. A bit of a mean marketing trick to present it that way, but ok, it won't harm anyone any more wink
BTW: How 704 samples? Very easy: 88 keys, 4 velocity levels, separate for left and right channel. 88 * 4 * 2 = 704.

I am positive the opening piano is "The Grand X"....the best piano on the G70 ... it is taking from the Fantom... It is 4 layer velocity switched as the SRX piano you mentioned..

This G70 piano competes well with the current pianos offered today..

Some players like it better than the Super Natural piano.. I have not played the G70 piano against the Super Natural piano... but have played both and yes they are hard to beat..

Old video that has been posted here at least once or twice before but still a goody.

I too am very certain its the stock standard Grand X voice. It is without a doubt just as good as any piano voice on any top level keyboard out there today. its not a matter of which is "better" but more of personal preference.

I have owned and played MANY different keyboards and synths and the Grand X voice played on the G70 is my favourite to date. The keys themselves on the G70 is what also adds to the quality.

Yep, you're correct, I didn't think of the fact that actually the Fantom X Ultimate Piano is also stereo 88-note sampled with four layers so it also has 704 individual samples. So about the time when the SRX 11 came out, the Fantom X's Ultimate Piano was released with a similar quality level.
I agree, I like that piano very much, too, its samples captured quite a lot of ambiance from the resonance of the original piano.

The SonicCell, which was recently discussed in another thread, has the Ultimate Piano from the Fantom too, but unfortunately a bit cut down with only three layers and audibly not all 88 notes sampled individually. And the Integra does NOT have it unless you use the special HQ GM expansion that needs all four virtual slots at once.
I never understood why Roland didn't continue putting the full-quality Fantom X Ultimate Piano into all of the newer instruments...
Certainly an excellent piano, especially for an arranger in 2004, leaving a Tyros piano sound of that time far behind in realism.

Yes....me too, three, four, five and six with a few exclamation marks thrown in there for emphasis...........!!!!!!!!!!!

I live on styles and you can't top Roland when it comes to creating well-thought out authentic styles.

The G70 still sounds good even after all these years that past and the features that it had were not implemented in the new keyboards of today. It's too bad that the E80 that was very similar especially in sound lost so much value in price.

I kick myself every time I think I owned three of these and sold each one. I’d love to have just one more.
