I love bossa nova music! I think if I could only play one style of music it would be bossa nova. Now theres nothing so nice as a greeat drummer that can play bossa nova with brushes. I never heard a good brush bossa nova on an arranger... Have you? Anyways here's one of my favorite drummers, Jeff Hamilton, playing some a fantasitic brush bossa with Diana Krall. The piano solo and vocal aren't too shabby either So nice!

With certain kinds of music, less drums is certainly better. It's often harder to play sparingly and quieter.

LOVE the BOSSA!!! and a big fan of Diana as well ... saw her in concert in Providence a number of years ago ... 14th row, center !!!
As 'So Nice' as this take is, she looks and sounds like she has a cold or a nasal infection of some kind ... I have this album and, while it was 'panned' somewhat by her jazz fans for the use of strings and orchestra, it is a great album ...

Hamilton does a great job ...

I too am a big bossa fan, but unfortunately, it's one of those beautiful styles of music that dancers seem to totally ignore. I'm not alone in this feeling, there are lots of other entertainers in my area that make the same claim.

The Yamaha Slow Bossa is also one of my favorites, as it can be used for a variety of songs. I agree more brush, less stick, would be a good thing.

There are several Bossa Novas on PA3X, but the one that is simply Bossa Nova, is mostly brushes. It's really good. I think. I'm not an expert on Bossa Novas though.

Tony, it's funny that you mentioned her voice sounds a bit more nasaly. We were listening to the her studio version of this song and my wife made your same obsevation. Maybe she was going for a diffenent vocal sound on this cut?

Gary and Russ, my experiance is that bossa nova is for the cocktail/dinner hour. Not for dancers. Too bad...
For my NH jobs the only bossa I do is Girl From Ipamnema, sometimes I do a little medly with "So Nice" or "Desafinado".
Of course any of the old standards like "The Way You Look Tonight" work well as bossas.

Don, if you have time could you post an example of the Korg Bossa Nova with brushes? Nothing fancy, just some LH chords or the beat by it self... Thanks!

I think I used it on a song last night. I'll listen to my Tascam to see if I recorded it. I don't record everything. If not, I'll try to do it and some of the other Bossa Novas for you.
