It's just a novel way of straightening the air out as it leave the front edge of the ring, and it’s a little like a jet engine front air intake in reverse, the air coming out is going to be exceptionally straight. This chap Dyson is not and inventor he is just very good at taking something and making it look very very cool. If you take a look at Dyson vacuum cleaner they are hellish complicated bits of gear, if you try to take one apart it’s like BEBOP laptops, take a few screw out - pull and tug and snap there goes a piece of plastic. The vacuum cleaner have the same life cycle has a laptop, but he is very successful at what he does, the balloon race with the fans is a gimmick you will notice that the outgoing air is actually entraining air at the back of the ring, love to see one stripped down, like you say Dnj they look good, how much are they to buy!
