I am considering the P80, but wonder if there is a cheaper keyboard with maybe less functions but the same active touch quality. If anyone can help please email me.

Kurxweil has a cheaper model that comes in a 76 or 88 key version, but the sound does not compare. It's just OK. Very scaled down from previous Kurz quality. You can get a 76 note semi-weighted action piano for $500 new.

Well...there's always a used P80. For my money the P80 is simply the most amazing keyboard of them all - when it comes specifically to piano TOUCH and ACTION for a classical or jazz pianist. At $999 its a steal.
Hello Uncle Dave - Thanks for your helpful comments a few months back when I was first getting into MIDI. I am now happily sequencing / composing with the P80, a Roland SC8850 sound module - and good old Power Tracks on my PC. Your comments were very helpful back then. Regards, John

There is another good feeling weighted action 38 lb digital piano available from Korg. It's called the SP100 and sells for $799.00 brand new. It was originally going to sell for $1495.00 but Korg has reduced the retail to $995.00 after Yamaha came out with the P80. I sell both of these new models and the thing I can tell you is that they both feel very good and both have very good piano sounds. The major differfence is that the Yamaha can split where the Korg can only layer sounds, and the Yamaha has a really good Jazz Organ with leslie fast and slow speed variations and the Korg only has a Church Organ sound. However, if it's Piano you want at a lower price, check out the SP100.
