I have recently acquired a couple of older Yamaha pieces, an FB-01 and a RX-17, it seems it will be awhile before I can get manuals, does anyone out there have any hints on using them? (Don't say get rid of them, I can't do that.!)

I've used an FB-01. There are lots of sounds; the keyboard sounds aside from acoustic piano are pretty good.

The main thing is you'll have to find an editor because there is no front panel editing. You'll find some irritations with the factory sounds, like everything is velocity sensitive whether you think it should be or not. Gotta edit that with a computer. And eveything responds the same to mod wheel; x amount of vibrato. Ditto...

That said, I'd have one now if I had known at the time that 3rd party editors were available and that people had patches online. Check the Yamaha Zone from Synth Zone's front page. And if I recall, links from Dave Benson's DX7 Page. YAmaha UK is a very good place to visit.Good luck.mn
