I am a newbie to music electronics and I wish to use this keyboard as a controller. But is has 32 note polyphony. In order to use a sound module (such as the JV 1080) with it, will I have to buy another keyboard for recording? Thanks for your help.

The short answer is no..
If you are using the keyboard as just a controller i.e. to send the midi information to the sound module and not using its' (the keyboards) internal voices, then it doesn't matter what polyphony it has. The polyphony is handled by the sound module itself.
