Does any else out there own a DGX300? I bought one about a year ago and I am very dissatisfied with it. The sounds are good but I dislike the drums. Has anyone figured out if there is a mixer for the accompaniment? I was new at purchasing keyboards and it was definitely not what I needed. I am just curious what other owners of the DGX300 think of it.

hi ptmacaw,

I actually do not own a DGX300, but am seriously considering buying one. May I ask if you are able to easily compose into the onboard sequencer, and then save that "user song" to diskette as a SMF (Standard Midi File). If so do you happen to know if it will be an SMF0 or an SMF1 format file.

I've used in the past a Casio WK1800 and was very pleased with the sound quality and ease of use, but the reasons I sold it were:
1) I could not save the stored/created sequences (aka "user songs") to diskette as a standard MIDI file, but only in the Casio propriety format, which meant my MIDI files created were not portable to other devices.
2) I got too much noise out of an amp when plugged into my amp. I could have lived with this so this wasn't my biggest problem.

I am also currently looking into the Casio WK3500. It will probably be my choice if the "user songs" can be stored to diskette as SMF (either 0 or 1 is fine with me). I understand from reading posts in the General Arranger forum, or at least I've derived, that the sound quality is better in the WK3500 then it is in the DGX300.

Peace
Bob

The DGX300 if find has too many steps to go through to do anything. But to anwer your question, yes is does save as SMF0 files.
I would suggest that you read the manual for it that can be downloaded at this link:

ALso, I was at Sam's wholesale last week and played with the Casio WK3000 and I was amazed at the drums and accompaniment. I wish I had purchased the WK3000 instead of the DGX300. I don't like the accompaniment styles on the DGX300. They have alot of high hat (very tinny) sounds. To me they sound like a toy. I was unable to listen to this keyboard before purchasing it- couldn't find one locally. So if you can please don't buy before you listen to it!!!! Mine is abt 8 months old. It is like new, but I don't have the original packaging. Maybe I should try to sell it to get my Roland! Let me know how much you may be willing to by a used one for.

thanks
pat

Hi Pat,

I've been scouring the web and found a downloadable version of the Casio's WK3500 User's Guide and have read in there that it will save your sequence to SMF. This makes the Casio WK3500 the board for me. Sorry, not interested in a used DGX300. I will go to Guitar Center and save a file to diskette just to verify my saved file on diskette is an SMF file.

Best wishes
Bob
