Used S80's I see selling for around a grand. S90 brand new are around 1800+. I loved the sound of the S80. But I liked the feel of believe it or not, the S08 (yes the S O-eight). Now I've heard the S90 has the same keyboard as the S08.

Question is... anyone now of the main differences, sound-wise, not features between the S80 and the S90? If the sounds are virtually the same, I'd get a used S80 to save some bucks.

thanks heaps

Money issues aside, here's my opinion. The S90 is the way to go. Motif sounds(better), better piano sample, better action and ultimately more support. Many S80 users are upgrading to the S90. As good as the S80 is, the S90 is better. The S08 should be your last option. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the S80's that are for sale are because the owners want to upgrade to a S90. Usually the upgrade from one model to the next isn't significant, but in this case it is. Ultimately the decision is yours, but most people will buy a synth for the quality of the sounds, this is where the S90 really shines. If you haven't , go listen to one for yourself. It will blow you away!

By the way I forgot to mention if you pay $1800.00 for a S90, your paying too much. Go to www.sninety.com look in the discussion forums and in the last section there is a general discussion forum. There is a long thread in there about the best prices. Some people are getting them for around $1500.00

Thanks supermanrulez.

I appreciate you sharing that website with me. There's a lot of really excellent issues to read as I am shopping for my main board now.

I think the best thing for me to do is to save up enough money and get a solid board that feels great, sounds great, has some expansion capabilities, can be an very good controller and is simply powerful enough to be the only board (piece of equipment) to use. Whether it be a piano solo or organs/pads/strings in a mix. I also have a JV1010 and an RS-9, but would like a solid weighted 88 key synth. I prefer the balanced over graded because the board will not be restricted to piano playing.

In general I like Yamaha over Korg or Roland. The Triton's really don't impress me. Imagine? I thought about an XV-88 but they seem to be 2000+. I don't know... I would like 128 polyphony though.

Thanks again for the resourse. It looks like I'll find great info on the Yamaha line there.
