Hi there,

I have a KN920 in my setup at the moment, that I am looking to upgrade to one of the following models so that I have a model compatible with my other technics keyboards.

I'm looking for a KN1200 (in good condition)a KN2000, or the newer KN1400/1600.

I've looked on eBay, but there dosen't seem to be much on offer at the moment. I'm based in the UK (London), does anybody know of any other good sources for used Technics keyboards? I've only ever used eBay, you see!

Of course, if anybody has one of the above models and would be willing to part with it, then get in touch!

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Tim.

Hi there,

I've sent you an email about this, hoping to hear from you soon,

Tim.

PS I suppose I should put here, if anybody is interested in a KN920 in excellent condition, with manual, leads and music stand, let me know!

Hi Tim,

Why not go a bit up market and get a KN7000?

Currently there are two KN7000's advertised in the keyboard player priced at £1000 (Tel 01622 880490)Kent and £850 (Tel 0161 4854742) Cheshire

If you decide to go for one or the other you
won't regret it,its a super keyboard.

Hi,

Thanks for the information, but I already own a KN7000, what I am replacing is my "work keyboard" for want of a better name. It's the keyboard I take to a local school for the kids to do their coursework on. (I have a work placement as a music teacher.) At the moment I have a 901, 920, 3000 and a 7000, however any data from the 920 will not load into the 901, 3000 or 7000.

I'm looking for something compatible with the 3000 & 7000, basically. That way, when at the school, any work the children save on the "work keyboard" I'm able to tinker with when I get home, on a different keyboard.

But I agree with every word you say, the 7000 is a fantastic machine, would never part with it, and still not come across anything to beat it!

best would be a 2000. The 1200 had a mode to "save as" 2000, which would load into your 3000 and 7000, so that is also a candidate. The 1600/1400 will not load into the 3000 but will in the 7000. Personally I'd forget about a 901, it was a dog, candidate for worst Technics ever

Yup - my KN901 is sitting redundant these days, but I like it cos of it's size, means it fits on the desk perfectly, good for messing about on when I'm at the computer.

Thanks for the tips - does that mean that on the KN1200, unless I save as 2000 files, that standard kn1200 files are not compatible with the 3000?

yep, you're right about the size and weight increase, but that's one reason why the 2000 sounds better
The 1200 would not load into the 2000 without first saving as 2000 option, so I'm almost certain you'd need that option for the 3000 and definitely for the 7000.
The 2000/1200 was also still a DD disk drive which has to be taken into account if trying to use HD disks for transfers to later boards. If you haven't any DD disks you can tape a HD to look like a DD and format in the 2000. It "should" all then work ok

Thanks a lot for this advice - from what I can see then, it's either a 2000 or a 14/1600 that I'd be after.

I still like the look of the 1400 or 1600 as I could use it as a go-between (i.e use it to tweak material from the 3000 to the 7000, as well as use it for the kids schoolwork)

I'm finding it hard to find a used 2000 in good condition... obviously given the age of the instrument, that is understandable I suppose.

Oh well, the search goes on!

that's it, the 1600/1400 would be fine if you don't need to load to 3000. Trouble with the 2000 it was a groundbreaking product, one of the most popular Technics ever, copied by others for years afterwards, so people tended to keep hold of it because it had a comfortable warm sound that was pretty beguiling. Maybe the reason you don't see a lot changing hands? Good luck in the quest
