I really like some of the rhythms on my friends kn5000. For instance - I like one of her Rock N Roll beats better than mine. Is there a way to put it in my kn2600 and be able to use it in the same way as I use the built in ones on my kn2600? I am very new to this technology.

yes.
go to http://www.technicskn7000.com register, go to the software page, and read the "download instructions" document which gives the options for your 2600. This will explain how to download all the kn5000 styles for your SD card.

Alternatively if you just want the one style there is an alternative.

Download the floppy disk versions of the kn5000 styles in the kn2400 section, unzip the one you want to a floppy and using the Song Manager software you can load the single style you want on the computer from the floppy and send it down the usb cable to the 2600 panel, and then save it to an SD card on your 2600.

However since the 682 styles on the site you can use on your 2600 are free you may as well take advantage of them all.

Yes, http://www.technicskn7000.com is an excellent site... there is so much there it's mind boggling. But beware, you may find yourself listening to styles more than actually playing the keyboard (like me)!

I have the 2600 but didn't use the 2600 download (afraid of the SD card then). I used the 2400 versions instead, but as I don't use floppy drive on my laptop I extracted the 2400 files to my hard disc, not a floppy.
When you open the downloaded file you are presented with the option to save the files to A:/ (floppy). If you want to save to, for example, KNStyles on hard disc drive C, just delete A:/ and replace with C:/KNStyles - or whatever is the appropriate drive and folder path for you. Then direct Song Manager to the folder you saved the styles to and upload to the KN. Hang out the 'Do Not Disturb' sign and enjoy

thank you for appreciating the technics7000.com site, Aprilla

using floppy as the alternative is just the least confusing method for those unfamiliar with the technology, obviously you can download those versions to 35 folders on your computer if you wish, but transferring them all will then be a pain, and only have the 6 character names.

I would urge you to have a go with the SD backups if you have a card reader, very simple and excellent to have all the styles to hand on one card, all pre-arranged with easy to read long file names, and particularly effective if you use the alphabet load where all similar types of styles are listed together for easy selection. All 682 of the styles suitable for kn2600 can be created in the time it takes to send a couple over the usb link, with no renaming required

What is the smallest size SD card needed to fit all 682 styles on.

Which area of the KN7000 would be the best place to save the styles that I like the best from the 682. Lets say I like 25 very much and want to save them permently on the 7000. Can I, and which area is the best place, to save those 25 style files on the 7000:

1. In Custom Styles ?
2. In Favorites ?
or
3. Save the 25 to a seperate SD Card...
or
Is there an even better area to save these 25 that I don't know about?

I suppose these questions apply to the KN2600 as well

Thanks for the tips.

the answer is in the download document if you read it, Larry - and for your KN7000 it's 727 styles - 64MB
You can get away with a 32 MB card with the customs as explained if you bought the 7k book and cd.

any of the alternatives are suitable for you, custom for instant use, or favorites - why bother swapping cards all the time since there is plenty of space left for your own files too, but not all applicable to the 2600 since it has no custom section.

I do own the book and CD Alex

What can I say...I'm lazy and hate to read.

I did not know that the 2600 does not have a custom area. Does it have a "Favorites" area similar to the 7000 ?

Thanks,
Larry

technicsplayer, This way suits me nicely. The Styles are in time manageable folders. As I fancy a Style I put it on the SD card and, as there is a text file (brilliant thanks!) with a list of the styles per folder, I add my comments there. When I'm done it'll all go into some kind of database where I'll be able to refer to ALL the styles with my notes, eventually.... maybe... someday. There's a lot

I guess I'm using my SD card as 'custom' storage on the keyboard with the laptop as my 'bulk tank' LOL I'm not interested in the card reader at the moment, I'll just play from laptop through the KN speakers if I want to use mp3s. I prefer playing with styles and getting to know the machine right now.

Marilyn, I have the 2600 but used the 2400 download so I don't know if/how the comparison can be made with a specific style. I'm beginning with the earliest (KN2000) to work my way through them all folder by folder but I just tried a random few of the the styles from KN5000 folders and, no, the RH sound didn't change with the Variations.

{QUOTE}
I bought the card read/writer and successfully downloaded the styles all 64 mb.

When I load into my keyboard when I select any of the four variations of the style I notice the instruments for the right hand melody do not change. Is this normal? I know I can't everything, but I was wondering if something went wrong.

Hi, thanks, yes the text files are there for you to copy into access, excel or even word and have an easy word search database available to find anything you want. But with the total backup you virtually have the same facility actually on the keyboard with the alphabet load which will list all similar styles adjacently for instant selection, and give you folder and file number as reference. Thus look at S for samba for instance and have all the sambas on the card available in a single list to choose and load.

Don't quite follow the second part of your post but all the registrations are contained in the first four panel memories of bank A, not the variations. The variation registrations only work with music style arranger and preset/custom styles, not composers. Since these patterns are loaded in composer you use the panel memories to change the preset right hand sounds.
