Hi!

I have a lot of music in my kn750 and very good styles. Is there a way to make styles with some computer software and then use the styles in techincs? because it would be nicer to make styles with computer rather than with the kn750.

If it is, what kind of software would be good?

And other thing, can i somehow use my kn750 styles and songs in my roland g-800? Like convert them to GM or something?

Thank you for advance!

Yes, i did find that program, mainly the demo version. But it doesn't read the technics disk, when I put it in my computer. I believe technics used some own format that computers don't understand.

So, how do I import my song OR style to the program? via midi? how does that happen?

I asume the styles are saved by use of your KN750?
If so, the files should be similiar to the KN800
and EMC should be able to read according to the list
of compatibility.
I have to say that I'm not quite sure, but maybe a
e-mail to Klauss at EMC would clarify if it's different
type of headings in the files we're talking about, and
thats why they wont load.

To export into midifiles if KN750 are as KN800, is not
easy at all, specially cause it's not GM compatible
and the drums are not numbered as far as I know.
But again, I'm not any expert, probably some other of
the members here who know a lot more about it.

Good Luck & Happy Playing

Yes, the styles are made with kn750. But i got the styles open, and converted them. But how about those songs that i have made? can they be transformed to GM, so that my Roland g800 can play them?

Maybe you can transfer from KN750 to G800 via Midi-connection,
but you'll have quite a challenge to program the drums as long
as the KN750 is not GM compatible, and drums are not numbered.

But maybe I'm totally wrong, so come'on guys, anyone done this?

Hi Jonny,
I think you are correct, the drums are going to cause real problems.

I used to midi either my kn2000 or kn3000
( can't remember which, but it wasn't gm compatible) to my roland g800. The drums were a real problem.

I think I did have a drum map though.

I used to convert the drums manually in one of my old atari sequencer programs. Tedious job.
If the kn750 songs can be recorded to a sequencer as a midifile, there's a program called GN midi.
One of the functions literally splits a drum track up into seperate tracks, 1 track per each type of drum instrument ie bass drums has it's own track, hihat etc etc
then it would just be a case of transposing each of these drum tracks into the correct instrument. You'd need a p.c. sequencer.
A bit hit & miss if you don't know the kn750 drum mapping.
I think there's a demo you can download & use for 5 days. http://www.gnmidi.com/

best wishes

Hi Rikki

Correct me if I'm wrong, but KN2000 was GM compatible I think,
KN1000 was the last who was not?
Anyway, to convert a sequensed song to a GM file was/is still
quite a job to do, even if the KN's are "GM-compatible".

I've always wondered why Technics had to do it that way, cause
it sure would be nice to save as GM-midifile to playback from
other devices, such as i.e. a soundmodule or stright from the
PC.

Happy Playing

Hi Jonny,
you're probably correct.
Is it the saving as midifile function , that the kn2000 lacked?? The memory's not what it used to be.
I know I used to split up the drum tracks, but it must have been done to alter drum velocities, not notes. I was forever trying all sorts of weird things.

I used Gn Midi recently to revoice one of my old Yamaha Dom30 songs. It's not GM either. I couldn't have done it without being able to split up the drum track.

best wishes

Ok... Now, what does sys-ex dump mean? I have that function in my technics? Could I somehow transfer the song to the computer by using that function? And then use the gn-midi to adjust drum track, and then save it to a general midifile and then save the song to a disk and use it in roland g800?

Or should i just connect my technics to computer, record the midi data what technics sends when it plays the song and transfer that to a GM song?
