as many know i have the Audya 4, but i also have the old XD3 module, no HD (same as XD9 keyboard without keys)

i'd like to install a 2.5" HD
anyone know where i can buy this HD?

i don't need the actual HD as i have tons of them

what i need is the plate that screws onto the XD3, and maybe the HD cable to connect to the pc board.
i don't see power cable, is tehre one that needs to be connected for the HD?

i was thinking of just velco'ing the HD to the bottom of inside of XD3, 1 entire side of the HD, double sided.

anyone? do i just format any HD? do i have to load any software after?

So I counted the pins on the pc board inside XD3. There are 50. 2 rows of 25

And the typical 2.5" IDE HD has 44 pins. 2 rows of 22

What gives?

Check your email. I need to know what DISK CONTROL Version you have (DISK - UTILITY - Dispayed on top).....
Depending on type/size of HDs you have, you may need a new Disk Controller EPROM chip.

Thanks,

AJ

Make sure your drive is less than 20gb. I would reccomend a 4 or 6gb Travelstar for the XD3 (don't need any more for that module). You don't need any software as the XD3 will automatically detect and format the drive

Your cable will be a problem. They are almost impossible to find. Before we were Ketron distributors I searched the entire planet for those cables because I did not want to buy the originals...and I could not find them anywhere. Tony managed to find a supplier for the connectors though, then all you need is the ribbon cable and a tool to make one up.

Velcro....hmmm, that would concern me in case the heat from the drive melted the glue and the whole lot moved around.

I understand not wanting to buy the whole HDD kit as its quite a few quid, but you could order just the cable from your Ketron distributor or pinch the bracket and cable from your Audya!

tonewheel,

thanks, interesting i was gonna put in an old 40gb
then AJ said for that, i'd need to upgrade my EPROM chip as well

so i then found a Travelstar 5gb drive on an old laptop with Win95
i think this is plenty room for my midi, styles, registrations etc.

i have ordered the original mounting plate, ribbon, screws (no HD)
so i think i'm all set now..... thanks for your suggestions
