Hi AJ and all,

I just bought the BOSS EV-5 experssion pedal to use as a volume pedal on my X1. I hook it up to the volume pedal input in the back. It works fine when the SWELL option is not checked in ARRANGE MODE. But I need this volume pedal to only control my RHS volume and keep the LHS volume constant. To do so, the SWELL has to be checked in ARRANGE MODE (according to the manual).

Here is the problem. The volume does go up and down only when your not playing a key. By that I mean, if I play a string sound, it will play at the volume level that the pedal is on. I remove my hand from the keys, and change the pedal position, then play again, it plays on the new volume level...so far so good....now I play strings and keep my hand on the keys and try to change volume it does not change. SO it only changes volume if the keys are not pressed.

My question is, is this because this is not a Ketron volume pedal? My friend has the same exact pedal and he says it works perfect with the VEGA.

Is this a:
-Compatability issue
-an X1 issue
-BOSS pedal issue
-Does the Ketron volume pedal function better?

Thanks

Hi this Hani Marco, in Florida
I have the same volume control problem with the X1. Another problem is when using the pedal as WHAWHA by enabling through the online effects it works perfectly with the guitar but poorly with the trumpet. If you disable the WHAWHA effect the volume goes down. I would like to try a ketron volume pedal.

Mosiqaar,

I do not know if it is the pedal that you are using for I tested this with our Ketron pedal and it works as specified. You might have to reverse the polarity on the pedal you are using.

Thanks,

AJ

Hi Mosiqaar,
I have an old Roland EV5 pedal (probably the same as the Boss EV5).
I did not even know about the Swell function and I tried it immediately after reading your letter.
It seems to work as expected on my X1 Oriental. The RightHand volume goes up and down when changing pedal position, while the LeftHand volume remains constant.

One thing I noticed is that the volume of the left hand must be set before activating the Swell. In other words, if you want the LeftHand volume to be always at max then you must fully depress the pedal before activating the Swell. Otherwise, the LeftHand Volume will be whatever it was when you activated the Swell.

Cosmik, I simply keep my swell fucntion as part of my registration so I dont have to deal with it every time. The pedal does work properly in the sense you talk about, the RHS vol does go up and down while the LHS stays constant.

AJ, I will try the polarity, but I doubt that is going to fix the problem. The problem is not that it does not work fine. The problem is that when the arranger is working and my right hand is on a key and I try to go up and down the pedal is not sensitive at all....it is only a bit sensitive when I first lower the pedal, the rest of the lowering does nothing...in other words, it does not function the same way like using a volume pedal to the outputs of the x1, or like using the volume slide on the panel.

Again it works fine if I am not using the arranger section, but with the arranger section going , the pedal becomes not sensitive...!

I bought this pedal based on the fact that it works fine on the Vega (per asafar)...is there a difference between the Vega and the X1 as far as the coding for the volume pedal output?
I would hate to buy the Ketron pedal to find out it gives the same results!

Thanks
