I think it's time to upgrade from the PA80. I love my software arranger / workstation / synth combination and wouldn't ever give it up. It's by far the best studio tool I've ever had. I can use it live too when I want, but I'm playing out more again and I also need a better all in one solution for when I just want one board to setup, whether it's because I'm in quick setup mode ( translated: lazy ), or I'm playing a gig where space is at too much a premium.

I thought the T2 was a no brainer vs the rest, but after hearing some of the demos, some of the styles don't do a lot for me. Don't be upset Tyros lovers, it's just me. They sound a tad too polite, and that's just not what I like to hear when I play. So, I at least wanna give the Korg a fair shake. It's already a given that I'll like the styles better, but my questions center around hearing the lead voices and the harmonizer up close and personal.

Also, multipads that work like Yamaha's do would be great, but in a live situation, I can live without them if I have to. I have enough arp stuff on the Mo ES and the AJ2006 system that it isn't a factor at all in the home studio.

So after all that, my q is where do I have to travel to in order to demo them ? I'm 105 miles nw of NY city and can travel to there in 2 hrs or so, and to Philly in about 2 and a half ? Still, I have my doubts about whether or not I'd be able to see one or both in either of these very large cities....
I guess I'd even go to Baltimore ( about 4 hrs if I can do the legal speed limit all the way there ), if DanO would tell me he has them on display....

8th St. Music in Phila.

Russo Music Center in Trenton, NJ.

Cintioli in Phila.

Sam Ash in Phila.

I would call ahead, to make sure both are in stock when you arrive..

Thanks Fran. I surely will call ahead. Even though it's a bit further, I'd just as soon go to Philly anyway if given a choice between there and NYC, and Trenton might be even easier from here.

Hi AJ,
is the PA1X already available over there?
I was told I'd have to wait till after the New Year over here. Recommended retail price over here is a bit too steep (over $8000aud compared to $5999aud for the Tyros 2).

Friend of mine has the PA1x pro. He loves it.
Unfortunately I haven't seen it.

Actually the only 2 keyboards he's bothered keeping are his Wersi & the PA1X pro.

best wishes
Rikki

Bluezplayer (and others in his situation)... assist me so I help you experience 'hands on' on a Ketron SD1 Plus - EXP, then make your move/next purchase.

Where would be a good centralized location for a Ketron workshop in your area? How far are you willing to drive/fly? Scott Yee - what about San Fransico?

Kindly let me know.

AJ, NJ or Philly is fine.

Rikki, I meant PA1x Pro I think. I almost forgot that Korg has ( or will have ) a version w/ speakers.

Hi,

I think you don't know that Pa1X has pads working in the same way of Yamaha, that's a good step against Pa80 pads.
They are plenty of patterns and divided for instrument (drums, perc, loops, keyboard, etc.) and are very useful and practical.

Please take a look while testing Pa1X.

Cheers.

Hey Fran, I saw your post and seeing Cintioli's on your list brought back so many memories of my shady musical past. Being a Philly guy for most of my working life (Hawaii, then Florida after retirement), naturally Benny Cintioli was a fixture in the Philly music community. Although we always thought Benny was "connected", he was a great "friend" for some 30 years. I was just wondering if you knew if he was still alive and kicking (I can still hear his wife yelling, Bennnnnyy). I actually went to NAMM with him once, back in the '80's, I think. From what I can gleen from this board, I wouldn't be supprised in Tony Rome knew him, as well. What a character. I remember him fondly.

AJ,

Why don't we get Alto Music in Middletown to demo the boards you are interested in? I asked them to order a Tyros 2 so I can come in and test it out and If I like it purchase it. It should be in this week coming up. Call Chris in keyboards and see if he can arrange (sorry for the pun) to get a Pax1pro in for a demo. I'll join you and we can demo them together.

It's 3 hours from Middletown NY to Philadelphia, PA and I'm afraid I don't have 6 hours travel time and 2-3 hours evaluation time time on the weekends.
