I can buy a KN800 (€100,-) but I like to know if that is a smart choice. I'm not really into keyboards and the only one I know is the Roland E15.

I understand that the KN800 doesn't support GM so I wonder if that can be a problem.

How is the sound comparing to the E15?

The keyboard is mainly going to be used by my kids but I like to fool around with it with midi files.

Any info is appreciated.

I still have a KN800 floating around the studio somewhere and it is still like brand new after a lot of years use. It was built like a tank.
If you do get one, I have a lot of software I could dig up for you.
Stay in touch,

Thanks!

What about the sounds of the KN800?
Any samples floating around somewhere on the internet?

Just found out that the KN800 I can buy doesn't have a floppy disk drive.
Can I use a regular disk drive for it?

@ Bebop: You said you have a lot of software for the KN800. Is that still usefull without a disk drive?

HI BAM,
YOu need a floppy to load software into the KN800. You have jogged my memorey and I do remmeber that it was an option, and an expensive one at that. The disk drive is special for Technics only.
Are you in the US. I could sell you my KN800 with all the software and songs. It does Midi also after I had a special Rom burned and installed in it three different times.
I also have a Technics KN6000 that I could sell and also a Yam PSR9000. I am in California.
Bill

I'm not living in the US but in The Netherlands so buying one of your keyboards is not really an option.

thanks anyway for the offer.

I just have to live with it, I guess
LOL, not a big problem cause the keyboard will be mainly used by my kids.

As far as I know, the KN800 was never general
midi, so I don't think you can play midi files?

The midi that the KN800 will do is to play other keyboards and racks from the KN800 master and record to Floppy, play back from floppy in the KN800 again using instruments from the rack modules or other keyboards.

But is'nt the Midi Communication just the same
as any other keyboards with midi sockets, but
without GM it's pretty limited if you can't play
any midi files properly?
