If you own a DGX 670, you owe it to yourself to try out Adaptive and Simple styles. Together with AI full keyboard, it’s like playing with a bass/drums combo that changes the dynamics as you play.

For the first time in owning an arranger, I’ve been able to play a bass line with my left hand and chords with my right then change and chord with my left hand while playing melody with my right.

All the while the DGX is automatically changing up style versions A-D to fit the dynamics of the song.

Amazing to me and fun.

I’m guessing this is possible with my Genos, but I’ve never figured out how to do this with the Genos.

For $799, the DGX 670 seems, to me, light years ahead of the competition.

Any examples? I’d love hear that!

There are several ways to do this on Genos
The easiest is with the assignable Knobs.
Push the direct access button and turn any knob.
You'll see a list of parameters that are assigned.
If you turn Style Mute A it will strip down the Style one by one until you have just the base and rhythm.
Turn it the other way and you got the full band.
Style Mute B turns base and rhythm off first.
Try it and have fun.
Eric

Sadly, there are only a few Adaptive styles in the DGX. AFAIK these tricks can’t be applied to the rest of the styles. And the Genos can’t do ANY of this. The whole point is, you don’t have to move ANY knobs sliders and buttons. It just figures it out from what you are playing…

Thx all. I haven’t tried to do this on my Genos but will in the future.

Glad You are enjoying Your DGX keyboard. How is the keyboard action compared to your RD-2000 Roland. I know the Grand Piano in the DGX670 is stellar, wished My Genos had it! A lighter hammer action works best for Me at 73 and tired hands! Love to Hear More. Sincerely Harold from Pa.

Hello Harold

The RD2000 has a higher end keybed. Also costs 3 times the DGX 670.

That said, and not being a trained pianist, I’ve been impressed with the DGX keybed

Thank You for sharing My questions. Yes the DGX has so much going for it and the reasonable price. I'm not a pro playing digital pianos but for Me I can't handle a heavy hammer action. My hands are tired! The quality grand piano sound is most Important for Me. Plus the DGX 670 does So much for the Cost as You mention. Enjoy Your Instrument and keep sharing with Us. Sincerely Harold

Piano actions are kinda like any exercise form…. It always seems hard at the start. But it gets easier if you keep at it for a while, and then one day you find yourself asking why you ever felt it hard in the first place!

I definitely can sympathize… mid-60’s here. But the whole point is, the pain goes away. 😎

The thing is, the lighter you set your action and velocity sensitivity, the harder it gets to control your dynamics. Especially with velocity triggered effects like acoustic guitar hammer-ons and switches between hard and soft string and horn articulations etc.. A super light action and a super sensitive velocity curve gives you very little difference between the normal note and the velocity triggered one, and I hear it all the time with amateur demos of guitar solos. Hammer-ons rearing their heads in places no guitarist (or probably the player!) would ever want them. It gets damn hard to play a consistent line and just have the effect pop in only when YOU want it.

To be honest, it’s for this reason (in a way) that I far prefer Roland’s SuperNatural guitar sounds over Yamaha and Korg’s articulated guitars. Roland’s don’t have velocity triggered effects (although there are a few in the ‘normal’ Tones), you actually PLAY the hammer on and it substitutes the articulation by recognizing that you have played a legato grace note inside a whole step distance from the previous note. So you can play as hard as you like and get a full dynamic range without worrying that a fractionally harder hit is going to trigger the damn effect somewhere you don’t want it! 🤬

But as we get older, there are all kinds of health benefits from accepting a bit of pain now to avoid more pain later, and music is no different. No, you don’t need to work on your Rachmaninov on a heavy Bosendorfer, but a bit heavier touch can pay off musically down the road… 🎹😎

Interesting exchange

If keyboard action is the topic here(didn’t start out that way😊), for the $$$, the DGX 670 is a winner
