With today’s arranger keyboards we have 1000s of sounds at our finger tips, are we spoilt for choice ?
When you purchase your next arranger do you home in on the same sounds or experiment with other sounds.
How many of you go into sound categories that you wouldn’t normally use ?

What ever floats your boat, song wise. I admit I don't use 3 layer RH as much as I should. Viewing some YouTube videos with layers has me reevaluating the possibilities, especially put to Reg Mem. I need to open this darn SX900 box soon computer

Zuki, whenever I put off 'opening the box', it's usually because I subconsciously dread the amount of work I know is ahead the second I open the box (reading the manual, learning the operating system, loading that first song into the new board and getting it to sound 'okay', where to physically put it in your gig configuration, early buyers remorse-AKA 'the Donny syndrome' smile , etc., etc. Better go ahead and bite the bullet smile.

I hear ya Chas! A lot of change from years of 3X work. I had the 3000 as my 1st live board (few years) and really liked it, at the time. The Y OS doesn't concern me, been there before!

I almost pulled the trigger on a 4X last night, but at the last minute decided no (another keyboard hanging around and some new monitors I bought could lead to a tongue lashing from my love).

By Friday (deadline to open / no turning back). I just know it would be a great compliment as a backup and exploration into new areas. Plus, a lot of smaller jobs might make this scenario work well. More interested in studio(ing) the Yamaha for its bread and butter sounds. Doubt if I will go live in the near future - 3X just too good still.

Who knows...at least I'm finishing up 13 straight months of remodeling my home - practice time has suffered a bit.

When I bought my Kurzweil K2600X, I remember the sales guys at Sweetwater saying, get comfortable, have a seat we will bring in all the top Synth's and you try them out...THEN last we will bring in the Kurz AND you will hear that it's the SOUND of the Kurz that will win you over. They were right....so as to arrangers the sound is it for me...quality, realism, playability, that's what inspires me to play.....

So for the music I like, the Genos is it, I have the SX-900 just because of cost (looking forward to upgrading to Genos down the road).

Yep , we are spoiled as all of them are really great

Agree about the Kurzweil. The sounds are absolutely to die for. Wish they would make a TOL arranger. That would be something.

Glad I'm sticking with my S-950 - very user friendly, sounds fantastic, nothing new to learn, and I can still be lazy like Don Mason and Chas. wink

I also noticed that Dean Peters wished he would have kept his S-950 as well. Hmmmm! I wonder how many others wish they would not have upgraded. Don't worry, Donny, we know about you already.

I had an S950 and I only sold it at the time because I wanted to raise money to take my (now) ex girlfriend on holiday to Turkey where she wanted to go.

I love a good Jazz guitar, that's usually the sound I look for when I get a new keyboard, and I don't think there's been any keyboard I've owned that's had a bad sounding Jazz. Then your usual main sounds such as Piano, Sax, Flute etc..

Yeah maybe we are spoilt for choice in sounds? Do we really need that many these days? I think the SD7 has only around 300 or so, but the select few I've tried sound great. The SX900 and T4 has a lot lot more, maybe 4 times that amount! But some sound very similar. The synth sounds on the SX & T4 are superb as well as the vocals.
