On some songs, such as Last Date, I use a piano on left hand, an octave down. Fingered chord mode let's me play notes on the left hand and the chord doesn't change until I play 3 notes at once. Also do some oohs and aahs sometimes. I don't like a constant pad of strings or organ. In fact, I usually turn off the Pad part on the styles except for a few songs.

I use left-hand sounds a lot ... the sound depends on the song. For songs with a strong rhythm or beat, I use a piano or jazz guitar or something like that. For softer/gentler songs, I use strings or a pad synth. I tend to play the left hand fairly actively for some songs, doing runs, fills or 'passing-tone' kinds of things, or adding some rhythm such as what a rhythm guitarist might, or such as a pianist 'comping' might do. I try to make sure I'm not competing with the vocal lines, saving these 'runs' for in between vocal lines... it just depends on the song.
I also mute one or several of the built-in sounds within the style, to leave more room for the playing that I describe above (so it doesn't get too busy). This way I am sort of injecting more of "me" into what I'm playing . . .
Jim

I play a lot like Jim, using left hand sounds compatible with piece and song. It depends on the song, but it could vary from subtle strings or organ to active brass or piano comping.

LH Comping could become difficult if your a one finger LH player. Good thing we have so many LH choices. I use a split KB but always play full LH chords
