Hi. I have a Ketron SD90 which are Connected to a Yamaha Genos. I have Connected a midi-cabel from MIDI IN2(keyb) from the Ketron and into MIDI A OUT on the Genos. I have also connected Right/LEft Out from the Ketron into AUX IN on the Genos. I Guess this is correct…?

I get sound from the SD90 when playing on the Genos, but I want to make sure I have everything set up correctly. I want to play on the Genos, and be able to use the styles/instruments from both SD90 and Genos using the volum-sliders on both instruments.

1. Under MIDI menu on the SD90, I have selected "Keyboard Style and Voice", is this correct?

2. Under MIDI menu "Arranger keyboard" , should "Rx", "Chan", "Tx" and "filter" be enabled or disabled?

3. Under MIDI menu "Arranger keyboard", what should "Right", "Left" and "Global" be set to ? And what about the 16 channels above (Drum1,Drum2,Bass,Ch1,CH2...etc), will the numbers here enter automaticly?

4. Is there anything I have to do on the MIDI-settings on my Genos?

5. When I use the Launch Pad on the SD90, there is a little delay when I play a chord to I actually hear it. Can this be fixed? It is very anoying…

Thanks a lot for everyone who can help me With this :-)

Pannanorge - Nothing really wrong with what you did but I might suggest a simpler config just to get up and running.

1 - Ensure "Play Mode" is set to Master.
2 - Change from your current MIDI config to "Standard"
3 - Under Rx, set Global to "1" and for now, everything else to "Off"

That should be enough for you to set a split point and play left and right-hand parts. Does the delay only show up when using LaunchPad?

We only activate other RX channels on the SD90 when we are working with a DAW and using the SD90 more as a sound module.

I can't speak to the Genod config as I don't have one but basically, you want it to send out on channel 1. For the Genos sliders to control the SD90 you will need to make sure the Genos is sending controller info out. It might do that by default - Don't really know that answer but others on here will.

Thanks a lot for helping me.

I did as you told, but with "LEFT" set to "Off" I cant get any sounds from the left part of the keyboard. I only get sound from the right side. If I set "Left" to "2", then it seems ok. I find this strange since "Right" is, as you suggested, set to "Off"...

The delay is also under "live modeling" :-(

I had to set the Genos to "Master KBD1" under MIDI-settings.

We need a Genos expert to weigh in. In a perfect world, the Genos would only transmit on channel 1 for the whole keyboard, and the SD90 would deal with splitting the keyboard for you based on where you set it using the "Split" button on the SD90. It sounds like you have the keyboard split on the Genos and it is sending out on both channel 1 (right hand) and 2 (left hand). We can make that work on the SD90 by turning off Global and setting Left to 2 and Right to 1. Let's see if some Yamaha folks can comment on what settings would force the Genos to send on only channel 1 across the whole keyboard. You can try the settings I mentioned above and see if that works for you. Let us know how that goes. Once we get the basic config working, we can move on to the next steps.

Thanks Keeman - That should help. Let's see what Pannanorge says after he has had a chance to give it a try.

Thanks a lot again for helping me.

Keeman: I have tried everything you said and it almost Works. I have sent you an email With Pictures of my settings. I hope you can have a look at them and get back to me.

The main problem is that there is still a little delay when I use the launchpad….

I would love to upload the Pictures here, but I didnt find a way to upload photos here.

Hi from one Norwegian to another smile
You need to press the 'right button' beneath the reply screen to Full.
Then you will find options to add attachements by use of 'Filemanager'.

Here is a detailed video showing how to use the Ketron Sd90 with Yamaha Tyros 5. Genos should be very similar I believe...

https://youtu.be/WBZMMUeY6lI

On the midi transmit menu of Genos, set:-
Upper =1
Lower =1
Make sure nothing else is transmitting on channel 1.

On SD90, set midi RX as follows:-
Global =1
Everything else = off

Launchpad delay:- Make sure you turn on Genos first ....when completely powered on, then turn on SD90 to avoid any unwanted midi data sent to sd90. If you want to sync both, turn on midi transmit clock internal = on, and on SD90, midi external clock on, however make sure you use a very short midi cable, else especially with audio elements being used, you will experience some lag.

Genos sliders can control SD90 arranger if you can program midi sysex messages into Genos.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Pannanorge - How are you making out? As I mentioned, we are not using a Genos. While I don't think that is causing any delay, something is not quite right. We use a Komplete Kontrol S61 as our MIDI controller for the SD90 and no issues with delay. I'm curious to learn/understand what would cause the delay that you mention. Not sure if I asked in the past - Do you have MIDI Out of the Ketron to connected to anything? If so what is it?
