I noticed that more and more people same to hae aprefference for a single brand...

DonM keeps returning to Korg
Donny will allways go back to Yamaha
Fran must have atleast half a dozen Roland tatoos hidden under his clother
Hammer seems a ketron man..

I think at a certain age people know what they really like
Which makes me really wonder why some are still chnaging brands but keep returning home?

I can speak for myself... we get set in our ways smile

When I find something that works for me I stay with it...

I have no interest in changing just for the sake of change. grin

I am content with what I have, or I would not have it..

I have a tendency to hold onto things as long as they do the job for me..

Examples: My work trucks(construction).. how many times I would look at new models and conclude what I own is better then the new model.. smile

Same with Keyboards .. I have no interest in replacing current keyboards (but I still like to check out new gear) .

Nostalgia, I will keep somethings for this reason alone... like my accordion...….. and my wife grin

And I do not have any tattoos.... and I would never date girls( when I was single ) with tattoos.. They sure knew where to hide them shocked

When a company offers something I prefer to Korg PA4X, then I'll buy it, more than likely. I've had half a dozen Rolands and numerous Yamahas and Ketrons. Before I would get another Roland they would have to restore the vocal harmonizer and add a usable Break/Fill.
I don't see me ever getting another Yamaha unless they improve the OS and add touch screen. And not charge $5,000. for it. smile

I started with Yamaha then got a taste of Korg with the PA800 then Pa2x, then switched back to Yamaha with Tyros and ever since have owned both Korg and Yamaha. I'm one lucky SOB I now have a Genos and a Pa4x. I've been using the Genos lately on gigs and the Pa4x has sat at home setup to be played anytime. What a surprise I got this week I decided to fire up the Pa4x since it's been a couple of months..................WOW I know why I kept the Pa4x both have their strong points but right now I'm in a Pa4x mode.

I began my less than illustrious song-writing late-blooming career with a used Yamaha PSR-2000. (I still have it.) Then I tried Cass's Mini-Korg but thought the OS learning curve was too much for an old geezer for me to tackle... so I traded it in for a used Yamaha PSR-S910. Loved it but wanted better sounding styles. I still have it and plan to relocate it next summer for use when I'm visiting my daughter and her family. Finally, I bought one of Mason's Yamaha PSR-S970's and am enjoying it's many features and especially like the new, Super-articulated styles.

Learning it's VH and Vocal Effects capabilities has been challenging but I'm finally beginning to understand. I still have a long way to go... but considering the cost compared to Tyros and Genos, it is the best kept secret for song-writers.

My excuse for staying with Yamaha is simple. Most all of the PSR series machines are strikingly similar in layout and function. The learning curve is not very steep and that allows me to write and record my songs without much difficulty. I've recorded more than 1000 songs now (some not worth the ink wasted, LOL!) and have an equivalent number of unfinished lyrics. These days, I spend more time pouring over my catalogue for candidates to be re-recorded or completely re-written. Sometimes only a word or phrase, sometimes utilizing a different genre and sometimes, nothing works except the scrap heap.

Nobody told me this would be easy but I really do enjoy it and appreciate all the great performing artists here at the General Arranger Forum of "The Zone." Arrangers, no matter which brand are pretty darn special.

I don't flit about. I've been a Korgie since my i30 bought in 2001. Moved on to a Pa1xPro, and now with a Pa3x - both second hand. Like Fran, I stay with what does the job for me.

If and when a Pa5x (or whatever) turns up, I might be tempted to go with that, although I like a board to have a couple of years of 'proving' time under its belt to have all the bugs ironed out.

Maybe let everyone make a choice. If money weren’t an option and some rich dude would buy us any arranger keyboard we wanted...what would you choose?

1. Yamaha Genos
2. Ketron SD9
3. Korg PA 4X
4. Roland EA 7

Let’s tally ‘me up boys. And no...I’m not drunk!

Jingleman, for me it is the Korg Pa4x.

Now since the Kn2000 I have bought every flagship TGechnics model right up to the Kn7000.
Since I am retired I am thinking of seling both my Pa4x and the S95 on gbuy, if I could find one, another Kn7000 ---- as my only keyboard.
Does that mean I am tied with Fran?

It isn’t just keyboards people bond with.

How about cars? Motorcycles? A certain type/style of clothes? Or, you name it.

Years ago I heard Dan Crary play a Taylor guitar. I was in love, even to the point of purchasing a franchise.

Somethings just seem to fit.

A friend once told me, whatever it is you’re comfortable with, that is the gold standard. All things are compared to that.

Very simple:
Since my talent is not likely to change after 55 yrs of playing, I prefer to apply it to several keyboards for my own satisfaction, and provide variety for my audience.

For me it would have to be the GENOS. Since I don't have to lug the thing around...it looks like a fun keyboard to explore.

Remember guys...this is a free keyboard. Maybe if I win the 900 million dollar Mega Millions jackpot on Friday...I might be the rich dude!!!

With your "caveat" FREE... Genos would be the "hands-down" choice for me. It'll never happen but we can dream!

As a rule of thumb people don’t like change, and even if something absolutely brilliant comes out, they tend to stick with what they know, hence the reason major changes tend to be generational. (Naturally some of every generation will always be happy operate outside the box, being more outgoing and free thinking)

When you put it that way, I would say Genos since that would be the one I would be least likely to buy because of the price.

I spent a day with the Genos trying to like it. It is not on my list, even if free. Well of course I'd take a free one and sell it to buy something I like better. smile

Bill ... With the exception of some of the folks on this board who fairly often change keyboards - and I'm NOT singling anyone out - I agree with your statement ... Change in life often causes disruption, and people don't usually like disruption ...

Spent a day with my Genos. Then sold my PA4X to get something better...Genos.

We bond with different instruments.

👍

This said, I’m enjoying my PX560 recently...just for my own enjoyment. Fun to play(simulated) hammered action.

It actually was most of the day. My friend Don Patterson in Lufkin, TX. has one. I drove down, got there about 11:00 a.m., and played it until I left about 6. We did stop for burgers that his wife made though. smile
I'm not saying the Genos isn't a fine keyboard, just saying that it doesn't suit me as well as many other options.

I think that what is important is not the brand or model.....is what cover your needs and likes......and many o r most of us, try different ones....and stay with wherever is more in "our" way.

I had every brand, Roland E20,RA95,VA7, BK5, Ketron X1, 2 SD1s, Korg I5, X3, PA500s, PA800s, PA600, PA4X, Yamaha PSR 3000, Tyros2,3,4 & 5, Genos, and in the 80s I had a Wersi too...I did fiddle too with the GEM models....

I am including the Organs I had, Ace Tone Top1(Later became Roland), Yamaha D2B, E10AR, Hammond X66, Hammond B3000, X66, Yamaha FX1, HS6 (2), EL90 and X66 now just in my living room....no gigs with that, is to heavy,
I wonder how I did it then....I know....I was young then.

Now for me, is the Genos what does what I want, like and need.

My 2 Cents

Manuel

I started out with a Yamaha PSR3000, then a Tyros 3, Tyros 4, Tyros 5 and even the Genos. Along the way I tried the Korg PA1X, PA2X Pro, PA4X and even the MicroArranger, Rolands E50, and E80. Then for some reason I decided to try the Ketron SD7 and wow did it make a difference. I have since played nothing but my SD7. I recently sold the SD7 and ordered the new Ketron SD90 module to cut down on weight for gigs. I keep a small Yamaha S975 on hand because I like it for my Christmas and Patriotic shows. But for sure, my favorite of all of these has been my Ketron SD7 and hopefully my new Ketron SD90 soon to arrive.

Reminds me of the song Ricky Nelson sang Garden Party with the lyrics “can’t please everyone so ya got to please yourself.” Good point too about talent not improving after 55 years, same for me but it’s more like 45 years.

Had korg, ketron,Yamaha,Roland..Thinking about an sd7 as an all in one solution for my needs; wondering about price difference in that and an sd60???

Yet I love sounds on old Tyros 2.. For all the guys that have had t4 and t5, does it still take 7 steps to save the smallest change to a registration (memory-reg#- exit bank- yes-save-ok-yes)??

Easier on psr 970/975?

And of course , can today's motl Yamaha sound as good as yesterdays totl ? Or if not am I better off going with t4/5 for familiarity and to avoid that letdown?

Good post. Changing keyboards and the reasons for changing sound good; and I am one of those that changes keyboards.

What is hard to get past is when I hear a keyboard being played, a keyboard I sold 10 to 15 years ago ---- What comes to mind is, I wish I could sound like that.

Certainly wouldn’t say no to a Genos, if hubby offered.

I would not say I'm a brand loyalist. I have a Ketron, Yamaha, and 2 Korgs. Out of the those keyboards none of them really offer everything I'd really like. If fact on some jobs I bring two keyboards. I could get by with just one (probably the Yamaha) but it would definitely be a compromise.
