I decided to setup several specific gig sets on a thumb drive using only styles and today played my first gig using the thumb drive as the source of the song styles. It worked really well and opens up a ton of possibilities. I found the limited registration folders(BANKS) to be a problem for the way I like to organize my song lists. There was absolutely no difference in the time it took to load the styles compared to using the onboard styles.

I like this feature of any keyboard because if there is a hard drive issue you can at least plug in the thumb drive and play.

Stephen,
It works really well and if you use a USB 3.0 thumb drive the styles load faster than from the hard drive. I did not expect that! I am experimenting with other features and will post my experiences as I do them.

There are thousands of ketron Legacy styles available on the internet. They are mostly in .PAT format but they can be converted to the .KST format on the SD7.

Does this mean you handle you handle lead and LH instruments and volume balances on the fly? Also, is there any compatibility with Audya?

Bernie,
the RH voices get changed with the variations. I setup those voices in the styles when I save them. Same with the volume levels.

OK Deane, that sounds great.

I am in a quandary, as my Audya sounds so good, especially with AJs upgrade, and has some things like drawbars and a RH volume boost button that the SD7 and SD9 don't seem to have. OTH, there is a new sound engine, CDG, better graphics, new guitars, styles, etc etc. If the SD9 ever gets here and is debugged, maybe I will look at it.

Bernie,
The more I learn about my SD7 the more pleased I am that I bought it. I did try the PA4X but for the sake of me I just could not get the same quality of sound from it that my SD7 provided. I probably am not a buyer of the SD9 but you never know. I really like the onboard speakers of the SD7.

I elected to use styles rather than registrations because the SD7 is limited in how much you can organize the registrations in the four banks. With styles on either on the hard drive or a thumb drive the potential for developing gig lists is unlimited. So I can have 1940's, 1950's, 1960's songstyles all ready to go plus any other of many categories for gigs. Very exciting.

Thanks for your insight. You have had enough time with the SD7 to pick up any negatives, and, like me, you are certainly conversant with enough boards to to compare. All of my keyboards excel in their own rite, but you just beat the Ketron sound.
