Hi
Do any of you play medleys and how simple is it , if you actually have to swap styles?

One of the tricks in playing medleys is to find a general style that allows you to play all songs in the medley..... You could also create a specific style where the 4 variations all boost a different song..

And when changing styles, this can be done using performance memmories on my tyros..

For a medley I would preferably just stop a style, play solo piano during the transition and then start the next style prepared in the performance list.

When I play medleys I use the same style for all the songs. Works very great.
Some songs fit together really well - an example is Tenderly and The Tenn Waltz.
I think that is the key - finding songs that go well together.

I sometimes do an old time Rock n Roll medley that might last 10 minutes, if conditions warrant.
I generally use the same style, but occasionally use Songbook for quick change.
I also do a Hank Williams medley, with Your Cheatin' Heart, I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You, Cold Cold Heart, end with Long Gone Lonesome Blues. Then, with one button, switch to I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry; one more button and Lovesick Blues. That's enough Hank for one night, or month. smile

Yes, me too. I try to do at least a few with the same drum beat, but I always keep my tempo locked so I can switch rhythms on the fly. If it's not a dance situation, I even vary the tempo between songs if it's called for ie: "On the way to Cape May" (SHUFFLE) - "Wildwood Days" (FASTER) - "Wild One" (TWIST) ... nice, upbeat summertime sounds.

I do a 'Ben E. King & The Drifters' medley, among others, using different styles, but usually with the Tempo Lock ON ... The styles don't differ so much that if people are dancing the changes don't interfere with them as long as the tempo stays the same ...
