Just the grandpiano sounds..

However, my Kronos has several great piano's..

The Montage has but one Awesome, and maybe a Bosendorfer, but that would mean your 1,75GB of memmory would be filled up...

-------------

To be honest, you can not compare these two instruments, Kronos is the best workstation ever. Montage is probably the best performance synth for live use ever..

I would want both in my setup, if i wasnt an arranger player. But as an arranger Player, the Tyros 5 has even more to offer then the Montage..

Most things the motion sequencer can do, can also be done with Karma
Kronos has more sound engines, including a top of the line FM and sample player
Tyros has SA2, better Organs and ensemble voices not on the Montage..
I think even most of the things the super knob can do can be done on the Kronos by assigning multiple parameters to the volume pedal..

Yet still, i think the Montage is an awesome instrument that has lots and lots to offer, personally i think this direction away from workstation towards performing live is a good one from Yamaha

Only time will tell

Have you received any definite answer from Yamaha yet? I had the impression from a saxophone demo that it seems to react like an SA2 voice. There was more involved than the simple legato function the Motif and MOXF has.

Is it true that montage does not have a 'song mode' where you can play 16 different instruments together, that you can change by midi program change?

No song mode...

But you can do that in performance mode.. Everything happens in performance mode now... And you can have a sepperate midi setup in every performance..

Not from Yamaha itselves, but from a reviewer... So not 100% sure..

Just read from Mr Kaye that the Montage had no SA voices. - But that can't be true; not even the normal SA... I suspect Yamaha simply don't want to use Tyros or old Motif terminology for the Montage. On the other hand it would be stupid not to highlight modeling technology for acoustic instruments... The legato of the sax I heard did sound like modeling... I guess we have to try out in the store or continue asking Yamaha directly.

"Bachus,
I asked your questions to Yamaha. No, you cannot use both the USB midi and the actual midi ins and outs at the same time. It's one or the other.
There are no SA voices on the Montage"

Yes, as I said, that can't be correct.

Thanks for linking Donny, i missed that answer,,...

I was affraid of that answer after reading the manuall..
having to choose between physical and USB midi seems a huge mistake.
The Tyros 5 seems ahead in many many ways
Also not having SA2 (as i asume thats what he asked)is somewhat dissapointed.. the list of things that should have been in this instrument grows.. which again is dissapointed for a $4000 instrument.

The only real fresh thing in the instrument is the interface, the Analogue soundboard processing, the Motion sequencer (espescially the lanes part) and the envelope following..
