Where am I? I'm still here and I check in several times each day. I agree with Gilbert and Alec. Quality, not quantity, is what has made our forum successful and enjoyable for all our members. Want to know what I did yesterday? No? Well, I'll tell you anyway. I sat down at my KN, set it up with Symphonic Srings in R1 and Left, and Bass Ensemble in R2 (no magic there but I love that full, rich sound), then grabbed a music book and played every song in it rubato. Grabbed the next book, and the next . . . and before I knew it, several hours had passed. Wonderful! Almost as satisfying as a holiday on a South Pacific Isle. I have learned so much about my keyboard and how it works because we have super people who generously share their expertise with all of us. It is QUALITY stuff. If we suddenly have a quiet period on the forum, I suspect it is because folks like me,Ted Rose,Mike Harrison, and others are hovering over our KN's experimenting with the solutions given to us in response to our questions. On the other hand, Bebop, your initiative, enthusiasm, and cheerleading is QUALITY stuff, too. We need an active moderator. Keep up the good work!

I've said my piece so for me it is back to my KN, music books, and those rich strings!

I'm going to try your set up, Chuck, but what is rubato? Is that a musical term I haven't learned yet?

Irngkybrd - somewhere I have a book on musical terms but like many things it has disappeared but I think that rubato means played without rhythm - with feeling - expressively. Forget 4/4, 3/4 timing. Hey someone help me out with this I'm not explaining this too well!!!

In light of Chuck's post about his lush string sound, I was wondering if there were previous posts, or a web site, where suggested sounds/voices for the 6500 have been highlighted or recommended. Like others, I experiment with various sound combinations for particular tunes or song styles, but often discover that others have already come up with various R1/R2/Left
sounds that I had never thought of.

RUBATO - Quote " Variation of Tempo within a phrase, or measure, without altering it's length"
Also listed "Rubato: (Ita) The term used to denote flexibility of tempo to assist in achieving expressiveness."

As to 'absence' I too have been tinkling a different keyboard

Hi Bill,

Each June my friend Donn Downing and I do the “Frankie and Donnie” show here on the California Central Coast. It’s just 30 days away. I’ve got my keyboard arrangements completed, but I also play the big Technics F100 organ. I’ve completed all the orchestral registrations, however I’m still working on the composer patterns for a selection of Broadway tunes. I wish it was as easy to edit on the organ as it is on the keyboard. Still checkin’ in once a day. I hope all it well with everyone.

Hi All,
Was going to post about Chuck's setup on the strings, but to many beat me to it. So I won't.:P Check in everyday, read all the juicy info, eyes got tired and before I know it, it's time for a nap. Bebop, I guess we were all busy at the same time.
But with Grandpa Doug's post - that should get the ball rolling or I should say the keys a clicking. .
Best Regards,

Hi Chuck, Maybe I am stupid but I cannot find Bass Ensemble on my KN6000. Probably on one of the EW soundcards or on KN6500?

Hi Bert,

Goeden Morgen!

I thought since we always write in English on this forum and I can still remember some of the Dutch language, you might appreciate me writing to you in your own language. For those of you who don't speak Dutch, I said simply that I was stationed in Holland at Camp New Amsterdam near Zeist from 1962 to 1966. My family and I lived in the town of Soestdijk. Holland is a beautiful country and the Dutch people treated us wonderfully. We spent four very happy years in Holland. I promise to stick to English from now on.

Now Bert, I'll answer your question. The Bass Ensemble can be selected by pressing the Strings & Vocal sound button, go to Page 2, and Bass Ensemble is the fourth voice down in the lefthand column. The Bass Ensemble voice was not an add-on either with the EW01NX, EW02NX, or the EW65NX upgrade cards.

Hope this answers your question, Bert. Take care.

Chuck

Thanks Chuck for your quick reply. Really stupid of me that I overlooked the Bass Ensemble, it looks like we have too may registrations on our KN's. Your suggested registration sounds super.
By the way, je spreekt nog erg goed Nederlands na meer dan 35 jaren (you speak very good Dutch after more than 35 years).

Hi Bert,

I'm pleased that you find the sound mix enjoyable. The positive comments I've received encourages me to search for more nice sounds. Bedankt mijn vriend! (Thank you my friend).

Re string sounds, I recollect, a long time ago in the Technote Mag. an article by, I'm sure it was Frank Bez, (Frank, am I correct?) about Mantovani Strings, and Frank came up with, Deep Rich Strings, which were great, I'm sure I have them on a disc somewhere.
If not Frank's I'll hunt out and post. Walter.

Hi Walter,
You are quite right about Deep Rich Strings. I actually have a dozen or more various string ensembles which include auto pans etc. I guess if there was some interest among the members, I could put them in some orderly form and make them available. Let me know.

Hi Frank,
I'll bet the members would be interested in your setups of various strings. I know I would be. I do have your "deep rich strings" and they are super. The strings are one of my favorite instruments on the KN 6000 keyboard.

Hi Bebop, I'm here too, and like a lot of other readers, I'm involved with things that spring brings - cleaning up after winter and enjoying the outdoors and new flowers that are constantly refreshing my senses. I check in to the forum at least once a day to see what's going on, but don't always have something to say or any knowledge to impart, so I don't stick around for long.

I see Benno Kattenat has joined the forum - haven't seen his name in some time.

I am finding it harder and harder to come up with good sounding combinations for styles and have been stripping sounds from old files and doctoring them up to get something that sounds even a little different. With a little coaxing even a cello can sound good when mixed with a french horn, but how many times would anyone want to use that combination? It's a real chore, and since no one has invented new instruments, it's up to us, as arrangers and players, to put our imagination to work and find that special combination that makes the magic sound people enjoy listening to. That's what made the old band leaders famous - sound imagination. I'm tapped out. Anyone have any new suggestions? I still like the french horn, though.

Super Frank, I would be delighted to have your strings, and no doubt other members would be in for a treat also. Walter.

REGARDING STRINGS

Okay folks. Please give me a few days and I’ll post them as a new subject.
