Listen to this great little Roland module from 1999: the JV 1010. It included the SR-JV Session expansion board (hard-wired ex factory), which means the - by that time - very good Bösendorfer stereo piano sample was included. It doesn't sound as dated as one would think considering the sounds are over 15 years old, does it?

Good music will allways sound as good music.... The instrument is a seccondary factor, that only has the abbility to improve the quallity of good music even further, but not the abbility to make average musicians sound top knotch..

On the one hand you are correct of course, but I wouldn't enjoy these demo songs as much if they had used the cheap sounding standard piano sample of the JV2080 or XP80 instead of this nice piano sample, that was ahead of its time. So IMO the sound quality does play a role. Such a demo can easily sound cheap if the sounds are cheap, even if it is composed well.

Really sounds great, like the Roland gear I remember back when.

Cheers,

I still have my Roland U-20 keyboard, which I bought in 1989. I no longer use it, because some of the keys and buttons don't work, but I remember that some of its sounds were very good. In fact, some strings and choir sounds were better than my Yamaha Motif Xf's, if I'm not mistaken.
