Over the years, Don has always been an inspiration to me. He's constantly challenging me to learn new songs, which is something I have strived to do since I began playing. My goal is and has always been to learn at least one new song a week, and once in a while I go for two. This past week, Don challenged me to learn a beautiful song by Paul McCartney - My Valentine. I must say, it's probably the most difficult song I've ever tried to learn and it took three days before I got fairly close. Now, after a few days of playing it on jobs, both I and my audiences love this song.

My Valentine

Thanks Don,

Gary cool

Thanks Donny. I guess the old codger can still play and sing a bit.

Gary, you always sound so much at ease when you play and sing...that's the sign of a real pro.

Nice tune, and great performance, in your usual laid-back comfy style.

The accompaniment style you used works great for that tune.

Great job Gary. That's not an easy song to sing and play and you nailed it. The style, very tastefully fits well with the song and your voice fits it to a tee. Your keeping your repertoire quite current. Well Done!!

Thanks guys for the complements. Keep in mind, though, that if it were not for Don Mason and his encouragement I don't believe I could have done this one. Don is the King!

Cheers,

Gary cool

Very nice of you to acknowledge DonM, Gary, and you are one guy that always remembers where he came from.

DonM is a very valuable asset to this forum as well (he made me say that!)

Seriously, nice work by you, and kudos to DonM for his support.

Frankly I hate your guts. You do all the songs I hate that the public likes, you make big bucks doing it, you're not as fat as I am, and you're better looking than me. I think I'll meet ya at the Shreveport Jam and take a shot at kicking your butt to get revenge.
